UGH...well, that was dumb!

Hi all
I have a bit of an issue. Yesterday I did a big no-no and leaned over to pick something up. I dropped a towel on the floor after washing my hands. Not thinking I inadvertantly bent way faster and harder than I should have. I honestly wasn't intending to do that...up to that point my movements have been very calculated. Anyway, it hurt. My stomach is where I have all my weight so my belly button when bending gets lost in the fold. LOL (not huge but average rolls) and my belly button incision felt like it pinched/jabbing pain really quick. I got up and it felt fine, sore but nothing horrible.
Last night I was super comfortable and decided to sleep in the recliner as I have off and off since surgery. When I woke up, I was more in sitting up, not so comfortable position and when I stood up if felt like my belly button was going to tear open. I was able to walk off the pain but it comes back after sitting then standing. If I hold my stomach in with my hands it feels better and takes the pressure off.
There is an isolated area above my belly button that hurts to press on. My incision from the outside is fine, no drainage, no redness etc. It feels like it is pulling on the inside. f I take my whole hand and lay it over the area I can push pretty hard with no pain at all.
THe post op nurse line for the hospital is not there on weekends so they say go to the emergency room if I feel it necessary. I don't really want to hang out in an ER for hours and hours to be told to continue to take it easy and don't do that again. LOL
What are your thoughts...aside from don't do that again. LOL? The pain is not getting worse and I am able to walk it off but when it does happen it is more of a stabbing/pulling pain that I have never had before. In fact, I have not had any pain up to this point. That is my concern. Any advice would be great, thanks!!

Re: UGH...well, that was dumb!

Any NEW pain needs to be reported to your doctor. Call your doctor. Most doctors have an answering service that can reach them. If you can't reach him/her, or if your doctor says go to the ER, then go. It's better to wait there and be told to go home and rest than to do nothing and make yourself worse.

Hope you feel better soon.

Re: UGH...well, that was dumb!

I sort of did a similar thing last weekend. I had been feeling great with no pain and then over did and started having mild pain. I too had bent over although maybe not as hard as you describe. Now i too wonder if i did anything bad. My doctor at my two week post opt stressed no bending. I have trying to be very good ever since. Or is the mild pain that comes and goes just part of the healing process?

Re: UGH...well, that was dumb!

My dr. said at a week I was good to go...but still no heavy lifting. I put a call in but have not heard back. Of course, now that I have called...pain is gone. It has been coming and going. I am hoping that because it is not getting worse, no other symptoms and I am able to get it to feel better by walking around I just pinched it and irritated it more than anything. I try to be sure that the elastic from my pants don't sit in on the belly button area because the pressure sitting for too long will make it sore.
I sooooo do not want to go to the ER. I texted a friend that works in admitting and there is a 3-4 hour wait right now and lots of vomitting/flu like issues. I don't want to subject myself to all the possible illnesses floating around there and end up with something worse to worry about.
