Castle trip

Had my surgery Tuesday morning. Thankfully, the anesthetic Gods were with me so I don't remember a single thing from holding room to my room, not even recovery. Whoo!

In and out of sleeping Tuesday with IV pain meds. I had a bunch of nausea (didn't use morphine but any narcotic does this to me). Didn't sleep well at all.

Today, I was a bit more comfortable. Removed the cath early for bowel movement.. Finally, I can urinate normally without stoppage due to fibroid. Had breakfast ordered but still couldn't eat much. After another void (but had some bladder spasms) my IV was partially removed and I was switched to oral meds.. And the leg pump things were removed. Solo bathroom trips... but still no bowel movement (my have to use sopository tomorrow to assist)

Spent most of the day in bed, trips to the bathroom or walking around my room. When hubby got here, first walk outside my room.nice to see sunshine. Tip: don't wait too long for bahroom break or it's painful when it's too full.

Swelly belly and a pain of 4- 5 on average... Feel like my pre-op pain switched from my back to my stomach. Some cramping and bleeding but going well for the most part. Some clotting but they were small.

Should be going home tomorrow afternoon. Just had an evening cocktail of norco & anaprox. Sleepy in 5...4...3...2 ....

Hi everyone I am on day 2 PO from my surgery. Everything was left intact except uterus. So confused on everything. I've heard this is major surgery to you only had your uterus out. Some say take it easy and rest others say keep moving. My doc said no driving for one week, no shower till Friday yet my paper states remove bandages in two days. Which technically would be tomorrow right? Gas pressure and pain is horrible and incisions are tender. My rear is sore from the dilaudid shots. My belly is the size of a I don't know what! Hungry but full if that makes sense. I feel alone as my fiancé works 12 hour days and I'm left to tend to myself. Which normally fine with other than bored and hurts to do much. Maybe I'm over reacting since I just had my uterus out only and not the full surgery? Anyway I'm glad I found this page. Currently take Percocet for pain control and Klonopin for anxiety. Sore throat coming on now but no fevers. Thanks again ladies

Swack - A total hysterectomy is having the entire uterus out. You are not over reacting at all.

I have no advice about pinching. Gas seems like a possibility. I'm super gurguly, but I have had a bm, so I think things are improving. It's nice to be home, decatheterized, no iv, and no beeping sounds. And I anticipated being as uncomfortable as I was last year after my c-section. This has been a pleasant surprise. I hope everyone is starting to feel better and for those of you that are scheduled later this week that your procedures go smoothly.

No but I have a weird numbness. I can't feel anything in my lower belly area but noticed when I had an itch on my groin it was super sensitive. Weird.

Hi! So yesterday afternoon, I had my vaginal hysterectomy, ovaries, uterus, and cervix. I'm home now, but still very much in pain, having trouble emptying my bladder, and omg my uvula is so swollen it's hanging on my tongue, but I feel like I'm doing alright. I ate a sandwich and kept it down, which I guess is a great sign.

Thanks for the reply. See I'm all confused. I thought total was when they take everything. I'm wide awake at 315am as a cough jolted me out of chair that I was not prepared for.

Slept as well as we could for being in the hospital last night. Cath came out and bathroom trips were many, with the hydration of the iv. Doc says I'm going home this morning, Yay! Didn't experience gas pain, but I've been belching like a drunk man . Looking forward to a real breakfast and hopefully a bm soon! I'm a firm believer in metamucil, and have a dose daily to keep things moving, so I'm certain it will help me go today!
Thinking of you all and hoping for your smooth recovery!

Third day post-op. I had a rough night last night trying to get comfortable. Haven't had a bm yet. I think that is the pinching sensation. Took a stool softener ..... Crossing my fingers it will relieve some of the pain.
Thanks everyone for the advice so far. The hot ginger ale and heating pad have really helped.
Good luck to everyone on your recovery!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 11-Jun 17,2012

I had my surgery yesterday at noon, and came home around 5pm.
I did end up keeping both my ovaries, but my uterus had not gone down from me having my daughter ( via c-section) 4 years ago, and it was taking on fluid so it had to go. but my surgeon did find scar tissue on my large intestine, (anyone else have this?.. ) so that was removed as well.. so i am in more pain then i was counting on..( this is my 8th assorted surgery since my C-section so nothing to horrid.. my galbadder was worse..) but i have much less water weight on me... even with swelly belly, i still look smaller then when i went in yesterday!

The only part that sucked was i woke up while i was still in the O.R.. granted they where long done with me and had bandaged and cleaned me up, but i woke up when they moved me from the table to the stretcher, It scared the O.R staff, and my OB when my eyes popped open and I said ' Hi! That really hurt!... where's my pain meds?!" I have never gotten meds so fast!

I was an hour and a half late getting my pain meds this morning.. both my husband and I slept through my reminder alarm.. so it was a bit of a rough start to my day, but I am feeling better then I was after I woke up the second time in the recovery room!...
