Re: Scheduled for ablation 3/28 now thinking Hysterectomy, need thoughts.

I had an ablation 5 years ago when I got my tubes tied so that I wouldn't bleed anymore. It was a very easy recovery - only a weekend. I'm now having a hysterectomy in the next few months due to chronic pain possibly caused by my uterine lining trying to regrow under the scar tissue left by the ablation. I think you'll find many on this site in the same boat. Good luck with your decision!

Easy recovery after ablation

Christy is right - there are many women in the same situation as herself. And even though my ablation wasn't a success, I still don't regret trying it. I have fibroids that just weren't spotted before the ablation (possibly weren't even there yet) and they are in the uterine muscle wall. The ablation scarred the lining, possibly retaining blood between scar tissue and the bleeding, growing fibroids. Also, I have several cysts that I know were not there pre-ablation and may or may not have anything to do with the procedure. Probably not. Regardless, I have to get my L ovary removed due to pain and cysts, and I opted to have the hysterectomy versus the myomectomy for fibroids...the surgery recovery is about the same, plus, my doc said fibroids tend to regrow, so why bother with a myomectomy when I don't wish or want to get pregnant, you know? If that was my desire, I would have never agreed to try the ablation in the first place...

You have to decide what you are willing to deal with in the event the ablation doesn't work, and also, what's best for you. My sister had an ablation and LOVES it. She's doing very well, no pain, no discomfort and no periods. She had fibroids that were removed at the same time as the ablation. So, it's kind of a crapshoot, I think, but it IS a fast and easy procedure, so if it works, you will be better off. At least, that was my rationale. Good luck and keep us posted
