First pap since my hysterectomy and had slight bleeding

I had a full hysterectomy in Nov 2010, and saw my doctor for a check in June 2011, and he did a pelvic and said everything looked fine and to come back in a year. He said I should get a pap, even though I have no cervix, so I went to the clinic today to get that done, and schedule a mammogram, which he also wanted me to have.

When the FNP inserted the speculum, she asked me if I had been having some bleeding, which I said I didn't have any bloody discharge since close to my operation in 2010. She said that she is seeing some bleeding, and she showed me the swab with some blood on it. She also saw a small clot about the size of a q-tip, and showed me that too. She couldn't figure where the bleeding was coming from, but she felt inside to see if she could feel, and thought it seemed to be coming from lower in my vagina, not up where the cervix would have been.

She did the pap, which hurt a bit, sort of like a cramp, and actually, before she did anything it hurt a bit too, but always seems to hurt a little when they put the speculum inside.

She said if it kept bleeding, I should contact my doctor. I'm seeing my doctor in 3 weeks, and asked if I should contact her sooner, and she said only if I was still bleeding after 3 days.

All I can think of is that maybe when she put in the speculum it dislodged a small clot and that's what started bleeding.

It's been about 7 hours since I got home and last time I used the bathroom, there is still a smudge of blood when I wipe. I am wiping gently in the vagina to see if it's still bleeding. There was some blood on the pad when I got home, but nothing has come out since.

Has anyone had anything like this happen? I haven't had sex or anything since the hysterectomy, as I'm not in a relationship, so I don't know why I would have no bleeding until now.

I did feel a small twinge earlier today before I went to the doctor, kind of like a small cramp, but that's all.

I'm not too worried since I'm not really bleeding, but just kind of upset that there was any bleeding whatsoever, since I hadn't had anything like this happen before.

Shelly

When I got up off the table, there was no blood underneath me, so it wasn't major bleeding, just some spotting. Still, she gave me a pad to wear home.

I hope your bleeding stopped. I have had spotting before. If it continues or comes back let your doctor know.

Re: First pap since my hysterectomy and had slight bleeding

Yes, it did. It was just very light spotting and my pap results came back 100% fine. Just was weird that I even had that blood clot inside my vagina. I've got to guess that the speculum must have dislodged it and that is what started the bleeding.

Thanks
