Prolapsed Pelvic Floor Questions.....

Everything is falling. After hearing that I have a prolapsed cervix, vagina issues and a Cystocele I need to know what not to do. Should I be on bed rest, light rest and some activity or work? Work on a phone at a desk. The doctor didn't say. She did say to get some sleep and take pain meds but not anything about lifting, working, sex or anything. I don't feel like having sex anyway. Pain puts a big damper on that. I feel bad for my DH having to wait nearly 3 weeks for surgery and a while after surgery. I am sure he'll survive.

What has worked for all of you? Any tips on good laxatives as I am a bit constipated.

Re: Prolapsed Pelvic Floor Questions.....

I am sorry your are dealing with this. I wish I could answer your question, but I have no experience with this.

I have read posts from other women with prolapse. Hopefully, they will see this post and respond.

Unhappy - Please Help! Will my uterus fall out? (Scared) Please Help! Will my uterus fall out? (Scared)

I just found out that pelvic floor has prolapsed. My cervix is right at the edge of the vagina and was even sticking out a little. When I wiped to pee I could feel it. Should I be on bed rest? Should I work 4 hours (sitting phone job), should I water flowers or do dishes? Will it fall out more? I am scared. I have surgery 2 weeks from tomorrow. I could not pee last weekend and was cathed. I can pee now. The doctor is terrible about answering questions. I am in a fair deal of pain constantly.

Re: Please Help! Will my uterus fall out? (Scared)

Hi, don't worry! Nothing is going to actually fall out!! My uterus & bladder, rectum, small intestine & vagina have all prolapsed & my cervix is completely hanging out. At my last gyno exam, he actually showed it to my husband!! That was something I hadn't expected. LOL. It's been this way for 2 or 3 months. I'm still working 8-9 hours a day, office job but a lot of running up & down hallways & stairs. I've even climbed up on a counter to pull old files from a top shelf. I don't recommend that at all! By the end of the day it's hurting but so far nothing that Tylenol doesn't handle. I've found out if I lay down or even just sit for a while, the pain gets better. My husband is very overprotective & has been carrying laundry & groceries etc., for me & watering my flowers outside. The way my uterus prolapsed, it's laying on my bladder & I can't pee either. One trick I learned at my urologist's office - use a tampon to push everything back in (very gently, I feel like I'm bruised by now & wear gloves, first time I did this I peed all over my hand) & I can pretty well empty my bladder. My surgery is the 25th & I'm counting the hours! Good luck.

It sounds like you have a lot better handle on things than I do. I think fear rules but I am definitely in pain as well. The not peeing thing freaked me out! The catheter bag kept filling with blood. Is your DH being understanding about sex? Are you able to do anything at all? Not to be nosey but am I being paranoid? I do not want anything in there with my cervix. Is a Uro going to operate or a Gyno? So I can act normally or will the cervix slide on out? Can you wear clothes normally without a cervial protruding bulge? I hate all of this! My surgery is 4 days after yours.

Re: Please Help! Will my uterus fall out? (Scared)

I don't have that great a handle on it, I just hide it better. I have had a couple of meltdowns but am afraid that if I gave in to being scared, I might go to bed & not get up!! The not being able to pee is so painful. Sex is also extremely painful & I'm really lucky that my dh says if it hurts & I don't enjoy it, he can wait. I have put all my tight fitting jeans & shorts up for now. I do have a good size bulge but in a pair of loose fitting slacks it isn't real noticeable. And since I'm always cold I can get away with wearing a long sweater to hide it in jeans! I haven't tried to wear a skirt in a while because I feel more comfortable with panties, hose & slacks to hold everything up better. The more it all comes out, the more painful it is. I have tried to keep acting as normal as possible to keep from getting depressed. When I get depressed I eat so I've gained about 10-15 pounds since the first of the year. I had to give up going to the gym about 3 months ago & a couple of weeks ago gave up working in the flower beds. DH is retired & is fantastic about helping me around the house. The guys I work with aren't sure what is wrong with me besides "girl stuff" but are doing whatever they can to help at work. So I'm a lot luckier than some of the women on here. The pain the last few days is bad enough though that I told them at work I may take off part of next week. I have a gyno doing the hyst & a uro doing all the repairs & putting in a bladder sling. That's what took so long to get my date. They both had a dozen tests they wanted to do & then had to find a date they were both available. Who is doing yours? Just keep thinking how close we both are to having this all over with!! Tomorrow is my pre-op with the uro & the hospital & next Friday is the gyno pre-op. Have you done any pre-ops yet?

I am sorry for all you are going through. Did you specifically ask your doctor about activity restrictions? Who is doing your surgery, Gyn or urogynecologist?

You may feel like everything will fall out but they won't. I would be careful with lifting, squatting, jumping because you don't want to feel worse or leak urine.

Are you able to pee now or are you self cathing? Be sure to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and possible UTI.

Let us know how you are doing.

Re: Please Help! Will my uterus fall out? (Scared)

Gardenlady: Thanks for sharing. It helps me to know that someone else is going through this and how they handled it. The Gyno thinks she can repair it all. I'd rather have a set plan that will fix it right and for sure. Maybe she knows something that I don't. I think they take for granted that you know what they know or that you won't get it anyway. I have not had my preop yet. What kind of work do you do? My boss is wanting me to come in or get a note which is understandable. I wish the doctor would tell me more about restrictions. They are supposed to call this morning. Good luck with everything.

Molly: I am peeing now. I burn and hurt and take laxatives to poop. I soooo want this to be over with. I declined self cathing in hopes I would pee. If I have to in the next 2 weeks I will. Thanks for your caring thoughts.

Re: Please Help! Will my uterus fall out? (Scared)

I'm glad I can help. I have a big support system with the women at the courthouse where I work. Several have had these problems and most of them are several years younger than me. In fact next week we're having a So Long Uterus party at my house!! I read that tip on here & thought it sounded pretty cool. My daughter wants me to have a cake that reads "No Womb at the Inn". I'm Records Clerk/Bookkeeper in a Sheriff's Office. I also carry stuff back & forth from the jail all day & make a dozen trips up & down stairs to other departments in the courthouse. The elevators are always smelly & crowded & it's faster to take the stairs (& better exercise!). When my uro asked me what exactly I did & I told him, he said I need to take 4-6 weeks off. For most of that time I can't lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk, housework is pretty much limited to dusting, folding laundry & that kind of thing. No bending to pick up laundry or put it in the washer or dryer. My washer & drying doors are chest high but they said I would still be moving wet, heavy clothes. He told me he does want me to walk but start out slow & short. I forgot to ask when I can drive again. I had dozens of questions but still thought of more when I got home. My pre-op with the gyno is next Friday so I'll find out then what he says. When I told the Sheriff I was going to send my dh to pick up paperwork so I could do it at home & planned to try to come back at least part time at 3 weeks, he threatened to deactivate my key card if I try to come back too early & made me promise to wait until I feel good. I have close to 60 days sick time & 8 vacation days built up & will get another 3 weeks vacation August 1st so I'm lucky enough I don't have to worry about time. When your doctor called, did you ask them about a note? If the pain is really bad, I'll bet they will write a note for you for now. I decided to take some time next week because I'm just so uncomfortable. I can't sit up straight & Friday a couple of friends told me they could tell by looking at me that I was in pain. I'm hoping that if I can get all the year end stuff pretty much done Monday & Tuesday I'll take the rest of the week off. Maybe I can get my filthy house "recovery ready"!! I hope you're feeling better after talking to your doctor. And don't worry about preop. The two I did yesterday weren't anywhere near as bad as I had expected.

Re: Please Help! Will my uterus fall out? (Scared)

That is wonderful that the ladies at the CH are supportive. I called the doctor and they are supposed to get back to me on monday. The nurse said 'what prolapse". She is the one that took my catheter out. I am wondering if they are paying attention. They are supposed to tell me about a note for work. They are also supposed to tell me what I can and can't do. I also wanted to know if the doctor opens me up and I have a lot of bladder issues what's gonna happen. You'd be right at home here. My daughter is a Deputy Sheriff and my brother is the Chief of Police. My nephew and cousin and granpa - police. Can we swim?
