Third surgery on 6/25 - looking for support

I started on my journey in February with a minor procedure which ended up showing that I had ovarian cancer. Apparently they take tissue samples as procedure during surgery. Thank the Lord they did because they found my cancer in stage 1c.

I had my total hysterectomy April 24th. I have had several complications to the surgery. I developed 2 open wounds in my incision from infection and had to have a wound vac on for a month. Boy those are amazing devices! I took pictures every time the home nurses came to change the dressings. I also developed a fistula (a hole connecting my bladder and vagina) about a week after the surgery. I have had a Foley catheter in since then.

My surgery on the 25th is to repair my bladder since the fistula did not heal on its own. They are not sure if they will be able to repair it vaginally, laparascopically or abdominally so they are going in to the surgery prepared to do it all three ways. The hope is vaginally so I can get started on my chemotherapy.

I am so nervous they will end up having to open me up again. I do not think I can start the entire recovery process over again.

I'm so sorry you've had to go through so many surgeries and had complications! I pray that they can do this vaginally so you can heal quickly and get on with your chemo! Also ask for peace and comfort for you as you deal with all of this.

I will keep you in my prayers that they can do it laprascopically so you can heal quicker and begin your chemo. Then you can recuperate from all this. Sending hugs

Re: Third surgery on 6/25 - looking for support

I have been praying daily about this. I just get so nervous because it seems as though everything that could go wrong has since the minor surgery that begin this. I have 6 3 week cycles of chemotherapy to get through once this is resolved as long as there are no more complications.

I am just anxious to get past this whole ordeal. Though I realize I will never hear the words "you are cured," I look forward to the day I hear "you are in remission!"

My surgical oncologist and my medical oncologist have both said I have an 80% 5 year survival rate, which I have been told is really great, but I fear that the longer my chemotherapy gets put off it could spread elsewhere.
