Success & Hysterectomy
A few days ago there was a post for Success Stories and it seemed to be pushed down the list of discussions disappearing amongst all other great topics. I wanted to encourage everyone out there who is successfully going thru the recovery process or is beyond it to keep posting what has gone well and how has hysterectomy positively affected your life. I have tried to post on several occassions within threads but I am posting now on the frontline so everyone can see.
Two years ago, my Dr stated I had fibroids but that I could continue living with them all the way to menopause unless they changed for the worse. Since I was 10 yrs old, I've always had heavy and painful periods (wearing 2-3 nightpads and changing every 2-3 hours). I am 37 yrs of age and last year I noticed my stomach growing (I thought I was gaining weight) come to find out my fibroids were multiplying and were large enough to impact my uterus and grow it to the size of a 5 month pregnancy. My dr shared with me all of the options. I did some research for about a month and some soul searching. I am single and have never had kids (some I may want to) but was mostly important to me was my personal health and how I wanted to spend my 40s and 50s and 60s and even 90s if I didnt do something about it. I decided to have a TAH on March 16, 2012 and I setup the surgery for May 18th (ample time to prepare). While I was nervous before surgery I didnt have to be because I was in great hands. My aunt stayed with me for a month and I took the time to rest. I have noticed how better I feel post surgery but I am giving my body the rest it needs for complete healing. I am eating healthy (proteins, fruits, vegetables...having proper bkfast and eating smaller portions, drinking more water, walking). I cannot believe this is over and I AM SO GLAD I HAVE DONE this!!! The day of surgery my Dr walked in the room and said to me "Lovely Lady, you needed this surgery, your largest fibroid was 11cm long and you had eight of them...ovaries look very healthy, it is over now"....I felt so much better and knew that this was the right decision for me. This website helped me tremendously and for preparing for surgery you have to take everyone's experience with a grain of salt (it does not mean it will happen to you but you can learn from others that is why everyone posts here). This is a big step for all of us and you have seen many stories of women who are attesting that they have come out permamently very well (whether they have had temporary complications or not). For those preparing for surgery, IT WILL BE OK. First days are tough with pain and uncomfort and new things BUT you will get thru it. Best wishes to all and hope others share their stories. I AM GLAD I DID THIS !!!!
