Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 18-Jun 24,2012

Got to hospital at 5:45, had IV started by 6:15. Blood pressure was high so they had to wait a while and retake. Wheeled into OR at 8:29, they hooked me up and within a few mins I was out. Moved to recovery at 11:20, woke up at 12:15.

Was in recovery until 4 pm, but not due to issues. Doctor had an emergency c-sect he had to attend to and things were really busy on floor where my room was to be.

Pain level is 2 or below. Most of my pain is caused by the largest incision. Coughing is not fun and dummy me tried to eat a French fry. It got stuck, had to call for help. I'm still recovering from that scare.

I fell pretty good all in all. Eager to walk but floor nurse is still busy so havent got out of bed yet. Sure hope she gets here soon my butt is so tired.

No gas yet though have burped a few times.

They would have let me go home today but I opted to stay. If I went home I would stress over every little twinge. Staying the nite will help keep my stress level down.

Day 2 after my surgery and I'm feeling better than I thought I would. I took 2 pain pills this morning and 800 Motrin around lunchtime. The pain hasn't been so bad today but then I've been in bed just about all day, except a few trips to the bathroom and kitchen. Tomorrow I think I'll try moving around a liitle more. I don't know how long I can take laying in this bed. The heating pad I don't know whether it feels better on my back or my belly. The gas I think is the worst for me. I'm just so uncomfrontable. When I'm up, every step I take I feel in my lower belly. The GAS X doesn't seem to be helping at all. Every now and then I'll "toot" a little and it's such a relief. I go for my 2 week check up June 30. I hope everyone is doing well!! (((HUGS)))

Welcome to the other side! I'm so happy to see your posts. Keep the positive attitudes, the worst is over! My biggest issue was, and still is to some point, the gas. Best wishes for speedy recoveries!

I felt so good this morning, but now the pain feels like it is spiraling out of control. I am alternating between morphine and Advil. I have the heating pad on. I am having difficulty urinating so I had to go down to the lab to give a urine sample. Maybe I overdid it by going out, but this is the worst I have felt since the surgery.
Sorry about your gas pains Sarah, I hope you feel better soon. You ladies are all so amazing. I hope we all recover quickly.

Same to you Mila. It's so nice to talk to someone who knows exactly how we feel...the emotions, reactions and the advice. Our sisters have been a blessing to me.

I arrived at the hospital at 6:20am and was wheeled into the O.R. at 7:15am! My surgery lasted almost 3 hours. My ovaries and tubes were covered in scar tissue and my colon was covered in edometriosis. They took everything thank goodness!!! I woke up in pain so severe that I couldn't breathe and oxygen dropped to 59 and alarms started going off. I finally forced myself to breathe and was screaming about pain. Apparently the anesthesia Dr did not give me anything at all for pain!!! After 5 hours and a large amount of pain meds I took a nap and woke up feeling a lot better. My nurse was horrible at first but after having words she started to be nice.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 18-Jun 24,2012

My surgery was Monday and everything went as planned. My dr and I had talked about whether or not to take my ovaries out and we decided that once he got in there that if he felt they needed to come out that he would take them out. He told me husband after the operation that I was eaten up with endometriosis so he took both of my ovaries as well. Recovery has been a lot easier than I thought it would be. I slept most of the day Monday and since then I just take a few naps througout the day. Monday the main discomfort was the packing and catheter - and once those were removed and I was able to walk around and use the bathroom on my own I felt much better. I realized today that my body lets me know when I'm walking around too much because I will start hurting more and more. The pain isn't that horrible - just like constant period cramps. I thought I was having hot flashes already too - but saw from an earlier post that it was most likely from anesthesia and that makes me feel a little less crazy. lol

The only area that I have concerns about is HRT. I'm only 28 and not sure how I am going to handle going through menopause just yet. Of course everybody loves to tell all their stories of how women they knew going off the deep end after they hysterectomies and I really don't want to be another one of those stories. I don't think I've gone crazy just yet - but I can tell that it takes very little to make me irritated now. Hoping my dr starts my hrt at my post-op appointment next week

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 18-Jun 24,2012

I made it (June 18) and was home from the hospital last night.
The nurses were absolutely wonderful and my doctor is truly a blessing. I am so lucky. My family and my work family are so supportive. I had DaVinci and while I am in quite a bit of pain, I don't have the gas pains...at least not to the extent of what I experienced with my procedures in December. I am keeping up on my pain meds and while the nausea has been pretty bad, it seems to be getting better. Everything is gone except for my ovaries. I feel like a brand new woman evenjust 48 hours post-op. I hope all the other princesses an easy recovery and know that this is the first steps to our new life without pain, low energy, excessive bleeding, etc.

Thank you to all of my sisters for the support of this site and I hope I can be just as supportive to my other sisters.

We made it!!!!

Angela.

call your doctor if your meds are not managing your pain. Are you taking the meds as directed? Pain management is very important in your healing process.
