Walking can relieve gas pressure and changing positions while lying or sitting can help. I also found a heating pad rather comforting. Are you taking Gas X?

Just quick update. Am still hospital (op last mon) but looks like home tomorrow. Can't wait. They have been brilliant here but nothing like your own bed. Infection in both lungs is clearing up but left side still slightly collapsed so continuing with nebulisers til tmw and then review by chest consultant. Gynae happy with recovery so fingers crossed get out tmw.

Feel for all you ladies with gas problems. I have found walking even a tiny bit has been the best possible thing to get it moving plus drinking my own body weight in water!!

Hugs to everyone.sjo

Complete vaginal hysterectomy on the 19th. I was finally able to make it home yesterday afternoon. Post op recovery took a while due to pain and rapid heart beat. I ran a slight fever immediately following the surgery that went down by the following morning. I was only supposed to stay one night in the hospital, but due to extreme back and tailbone pain I ended up staying two nights. The pain seems to ease up the most when I use a heating pad. I had my first bought of night sweats last night, and I seriously felt as if someone poured a bucket of water on me! I feel like I am slowly healing from my surgery, but unfortunately I am still waiting to have a bowel movement...My focus now is to walk as much as possible and get those bowels moving!

Day three post op and I'm doing okay. Gas pains are worse at night, but it's easier to pass now. My "soreness" is really taking its toll today, but still nothing compared to what I was dealing with before the surgery. The stool softeners, fruit and apple juice have kept constipation away, thank God! Walking is a blessing and I do it often...especially when I have the urge to clean. Hubby has been wonderful, but he still won't let me get up on my own...not that I'm complaining, but I hate feeling incapable! My kids are doing great and keeping the house picked up and cooking some very interesting dinners...lol!

Everything is going well so far, just wanting my stamina to improve...so I can get out of this house! Stairs are still the hardest part of my day, but getting easier.

Quick tip: First shower- Take your pain pills before your shower!!! Then you will not feel so horrid afterwards!!!! Have someone lay out anything you will need in advance so you do not have to bend or reach or take extra time. Plan on a nice nap afterwards. Happy Showering! I had my first shower yesterday!

Hi everyone I'm a 1st time poster. I had an abdominal hysterectomy removal of uterus and both ovaries on Tues 6-19-12. I came home wed afternoon because I was doing so well. Thursday was a good day but I've been fatigued all day today and the gas pain is getting better. I suspect I'm having menopause symptoms today just feeling low all day though they put a hrt patch on me in recovery. I've just been in so much pain today despite taking Percocet and Motrin from all the post I've read the 3rd day is better more most I'm just a little concerned. I had a BM today also after taking stool softeners from day 1. I've been reading the post and it's been a godsend for me since I don't kno anyone that's had a hysterectomy to talk to. God bless u all for sharing ur ups and downs

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 18-Jun 24,2012

Had my laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy yesterday for total prolapse of my uterus (and fibroids) but the prolapse was the impetus for the surgery. I've been living with the prolapse for about 7 years, and can't believe it took me this long to do something about it. My doc came in last night and told me I had the ugliest uterus he had ever seen, lol!! I've been home for about 6 hours and taken one nap already. Pain is worst in my shoulders, which the doctor said was due to the gas bubbles from the CO2 pressing on my diaphragm with referred pain to the shoulders. He said it should be better in 24-36 hours, and I sure hope so. I'm looking forward to a better night's sleep in my own bed tonight.
