My surgery was on Monday and here it is Friday night already and I've felt the best today that I've felt ALL week, after I slept the whole morning away. I actually swept the kitchen floor, when no one was looking. It's hard to even do little things around here when everyone's hovering over you. I know they mean well but I'll be so glad when this is over. I talked the hubby into letting me cook supper tonight. I'm tired now but I don't feel as if I over did it. I hope everyone is recovering well!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 18-Jun 24,2012

My surgery was on Tuesday and was able to come home Thursday. Surgery went well with only a reaction to something given to me in surgery which made me " itch more than the recovery nurse had ever seen". I don't remember it at all. I really only remember bits and pieces of the first day. The second day in the hospital I had a really sore throat and major pain in my shoulders, neck and chest with difficulty catching my breath. My surgeon was amazing but I would have to rate my hospital stay a 5 out of 10, feeling as though I left in a room to fend for myself seeing my nurse maybe twice a day. I was in the post partum ward, which did not bother me but felt as though I should of been asked as it would bother some others. Percocet makes me itch, so I had to have Benadryl and my nurse decided to take me off everything but Motrin. When I saw my doctor prior to discharge I told her of side effect and she told me to get the prescription filled as it is a normal side effect, but the nurse did not give me at discharge as she was not comfortable. Ended up having to call doctor after discharge to have her call it in.
Since being home I have had my ups and downs, but nothing to bad. Yesterday was a hard day, probably the hardest so far, with today being a little better. I have showered twice which makes me feel so much better. My appetite is good.
I know that I will have many more ups and downs as I progress through my recovery, but know that what I am dealing with now does not compare to before surgery.
Thank you to all you ladies that give great advice and share your stories!

Well, I've been home for almost 48 hrs and have a major case of brain fog. Omg I can't hardly think! Other than that I am doing well. I think I may take less pain meds to see if I remain under control and regain some brain function.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jun 18-Jun 24,2012

I had my LAVH on Monday. Went in around 10:30 and was in my room around 1:30. I had an epidural with morphine in it, and a general. I had some itching on my tummy...they thought it was from morphine. I had a cath in until Tuesday morning. The first time they tried to get me to walk was a no-go since I could hardly stand (way too wobbly) I tried again late morning and did much better.
The doc was ready to discharge me after breakfast, but I told him in no uncertain terms would I be ready for it. I left the hospital after he came and checked on me around 5. I got home around 7 and settled in.
My friend set up a portable hospital bed in my computer room, about 10 steps away from our bathroom. My daughter slept on some couch cushions on the floor to be there when I needed to go the bathroom.
Thursday was rough, didn't really do much. Today was a little better. Smooth Move tea is my friend! I finally pooped this morning. I use the heating pad about twice a day. Motrin doesn't really help that much but the percocet (sp) does the trick but makes me feel a little loopy.
I can relate to the brain fog! I would be talking to my family or a nurse and totally forget what I was saying or what the conversation was about! lol I was clear headed by Wednesday. I've have occasional time where I'm really hot, but not too bothersome. I hope I can be a little productive tomorrow....I'm good for about 15 min. and then it's time for rest.
All in all, things are going good....just have to patient about the healing process and not over do it. Glad I made it!

I am feeling much better today. The bleeding is slowing down, just a few drops when I am on the toilet. The heating pad has been a lifesaver for me. I don't even feel like I need the pain pills anymore, but that may change. I am still having some trouble sleeping, my schedule was thrown off quite a bit in the hospital, my blood pressure had dropped too much so I had nurses checking me constantly.
How are the rest of you sweet ladies doing today? I look forward to hearing from you all. <3
I was laughing out loud and hanging onto my belly when I read your post! I soooooo understand! Every fart was a joy and my first BM was a cause for celebration. Who ever thought such trivial things could become so important. Good luck to you!

My friend told me the clouds will part on the third day, and she was right, I had my third day yesterday and the fog lifted. Hang in there! The worst is over!
