Diagnosed with CIN3.. not sure which route to take
HI my name is Mandy. I am 28, married with two kids. I have always gone to my yearly pap smear for as long as I can remember, and as of yesterday I was diagnosed with CIN III, severe dysplaisa. My doctor, whom has no bedside manner and was so rough for the biopsy called to tell me. She said I could do the LEEP or hysterctomy. From the research I have done I would perfer the Hysterctomy. My husband had a vesctomy after our youngest child, so I know we are not having anymore kids. I have high Blood Pressure (I am not over weight).. My high BP is heridetary. I also have anxiety and cried and squarmed around during my biopsy. I have read about the LEEP and have friends that have had it, it sounds horrific and I am afraid with the infjection of the epiniphran in my cervix I would just die there on the table, due to my anxiety and bp/heart issues. I just want someone to help me figure this out. My husband is a bit of but and of course wants me to consisder the LEEP because that means less time he will have to deal with me.. somone offer som adivce please.
Should I see a GYN oncologist instead??

Re: Diagnosed with CIN3.. not sure which route to take
It's always a good idea to get a second opinion prior to having major procedures done, especially if you aren't completely certain about your treatment plan. For cases of gyn cancer/pre-cancer, we do indeed recommend consulting a gyn/onc if possible. They are the experts, and you certainly want the best where your health is concerned.
Either way, it sounds like you've caught things early when they are most treatable. Take some deep breaths. You can do this!

 Mandy,

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this, but I'm really glad that you found it early. I definitely agree that you should consult a gyn/oncologist as they are the experts in this field. You want the best and most informed care and advice possible. Good luck to you - I know you will be fine.

Re: Diagnosed with CIN3.. not sure which route to take
Hi! I too was diagnosed with CIN3 (as well as level 3 prolapsed uterus). On June 8th I had the LEEP procedure. I will not lie to you, for me the procedure was scary and painful. However, my pain was thought to be from my prolapsed uterus. Either way, i took ibuprofen and an anti-anxiety pill before. My husband was with me and he did almost pass out and have to sit down. I think it is uncomfortable to be in that position as well as having to watch it being done. That being said, I got a pain prescription filled which helped a lot. A weekend of bed rest/light relaxation helped. I believe I have an infection and will be seeing dr. shortly. The results came back with unclear margins, meaning I am no looking into a hysterectomy. However, I also have a very prolapsed uterus with a lot of cramping, back pain, and pressure as well as suspected endo.
So take my story with a grain of salt.....The difference of recovery needed on your body is tremendous. A hysterectomy was never my first choice and i don't think the recovery will be easy. Consider a 2nd opinion, but if your dr is confident that you will only need a LEEP then i would still choose that option!
Good luck on your tough decision!

Re: Diagnosed with CIN3.. not sure which route to take
Hi
I am 41 and had a laparoscopic hysterectomy on 25th may for CIN 111. I also had estrogen receptor positive breast cancer two years ago which made my decision to go for the hysterectomy easier.
My experience has been relatively easy, very little pain and my scars are tiny. It is a huge decision but for me the knowledge of knowing that I won't get ovarian/cervical/uterine or endometrial cancer are priceless!! It also helps my breast cancer that I had ovaries removed.
I am 4 weeks post op,today, I haven't taken pain medication since week one. My main issue was wind pains constipation which has now passed. In fact I feel so,well I have brought forward a breast recon surgery early and going in for it next week.
My main worry was waking up and not feeling like me anymore but honestly apart from still getting tired in the evenings I still, feel like I'm the same person!
Feel free to ask me anything you need to.
Good luck in your decision x

Re: Diagnosed with CIN3.. not sure which route to take
Hi there i am 14 days post op. my hysterectomy went well. I had one due to cin111, I had two leeps prior(which are not fun) but they are way easier than this major surgery. they were not sure after the second leep if they got it all so i had to decide to do a third leep or a hysterectomy. it was a very hard decision as i wanted more kids. but i am also 42 years old, you are a young lady. so please get a second opinion before you make such a big decision and do whats best for your body. it sounds like you are already blessed at home, so take care and i hope my story helps a little.
