Concern re: bladder & hormone issues

I'm scheduled for a TVH and BSO on June 26th. Feeling anxious about the unknowns and possible complications. I've only seen the gyn doc doing my surgery twice. I'm 53 years old with history of PCOS, fibroids, heavy bleeding, spotting, and pelvic pain. Also, my first child weighed 10 lbs. so I have slight urine leakage when coughing or sneezing with a full bladder. I've been taking compounded estrogen and progesterone for about two years (bc pill prior to that) and it has helped with hot flashes, moodiness, etc. My last hormone labs (primary care doc)showed estrogen was high so prob was taking too much. Gyn doc is switching me to Climara patch right after my surgery. Just wondering about abrupt hormone depletion and whether bladder issues will be worse after surgery. Thanks!

Re: Concern re: bladder & hormone issues

I can't help with the hormone advice, but my bladder issues improved with my hysterectomy. I didn't have leakage, but the urge to go all the time. I couldn't comfortably hold my urine and my bladder always felt full. My enlarged uterus was pressing on my bladder and my bladder, uterus, and rectum has all dropped just a bit after my 3rd baby. Now that my bladder has been lifted (no sling, just tacked up with my own ligaments like most doctors do now with a hyster) my bladder feels like it did before I even had kids.

Re: Concern re: bladder & hormone issues

You should talk to your doctor about your concerns. They should be able to help.

Re: Concern re: bladder & hormone issues

I had a similar experience as Abagayle, after the birth of my second child I had difficulty urinating. My bladder always felt full but I had difficulty emptying it. I was constantly retaining fluids throughout my body. Since my hysterectomy I urinate freely and the swelling from my feet and face are completely gone. Bowel movements seem to pass easier than before as well. I really hope that you have the same results. Good luck!
