hair loss

Hi everybody,

This is my first time posting. I am 5 weeks post-op. TAH. I have been trying to balance this hormone thing. I started on the climara patch and added natural testosterone gel after 1 week, for weepyness and depression. My hair started falling out. I stopped the testosterone after only a few days. I switched from patch to compounded tri-est twice day (about 3 weeks now). The hair is now falling out PROFUSELY. Also weepyness keeps creeping up on me. I thought I just wasn't getting enough estrogen, so I added the patch again, in addition to the tri-est gel. The weepyness went away almost immediately, but the hair is just coming out like crazy. The hair loss seems to occur anyway I look at it. I have checked posts for "hair loss" and was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or comments about. I'm afraid, at the rate my hair is falling out, within a couple of weeks there won't be any left. HELP!

hair loss

Dianna,
Welcome Dianna!

The first thing I would do is call your doctor and have your thyroid checked. Hair loss can be a sign of a thyroid imbalance. You can read more about it here Thyroid

If your thyroid checks out okay you might want to look into taking Evening Primrose Oil and Fish Oil. My :hair: was an absolute disaster after my hyst. My hairdresser said that she sees this sort of thing all the time after surgery. It can be an effect of the anethesia and the hormones. On the advice of my hairdresser I switched to a vitamin enriched shampoo (no more cheapy shampoos for me) and conditioner, got regular trims, and started taking the EPO and Fish Oil and within a few months my hair returned back to its pre-hyst glory.

It did take awhile to get rid of the bad hair, but my hairdresser could see that the new growth was good.

You can read more EPO here EveningPrimrose

hair loss

Hi Dianna,

I had ALOT of hair fall out at the 4 - 5 week stage of my recovery. I too posted that I was losing alot of hair.

I was reassured here, that it was probably due to the trauma to my system because of major surgery.

It eventually tapered off and stopped. I might add that my hair turned out in better shape (even my hairdresser commented). So maybe that will happen for you too.

I agree with Kim, though, it would be a safe thing to do to get your thyroid checked.

Welcome to this message board!
