11 yrs post op

I am 41 yrs old and have noticed lots of changes happening. Is it normal to start having menopausal systems this young. I still have both of my ovaries. Also, I am really worried about hormone therapy due to the risks but hate these changes. i.e....trouble sleeping, low sex drive, what I am guessing are hot flashes, hubby says I am irritable as well.

Re: 11 yrs post op

It could be menopause you're experiencing. Some doctors say menopause comes earlier for those of us who have had a hyster. My GYN told me that I might expect to experience menopause only a year or so earlier than I would have had I kept my uterus. There seem to be lots of opinions.

I really hope you find some relief soon.

Re: 11 yrs post op

I'm 47 and my doctor told me the same thing that Sugar said. She said I might go into menopause a little earlier. I kept one ovary.

Re: 11 yrs post op

The ovaries can fail, or start failing months, or just a few years after the uterus is removed, so it is not unusual to be going through menopause at 41 after a hysterectomy with ovaries left.
You can research and read up on hormones and alternatives and talk to your doctor to see what is best for you depending how severe your symptoms are.
