peritoneal fluid? Davinci 10 day post op---is this normal?

I need answers----it seems one thing goes wrong, gets better, and then it's something else. I had total hysterectomy davinci on June 15th. At day 5 post op, had severe bladder spasms and bladder infection. Took meds and that finally started getting better around days 7 and 8.

Day 8 I start having flooding feeling like I'm peeing on myself and have to wear incontinence pads and change them frequently. I can have the urge to urinate, go to the bathroom, then change pad and when I stand up and walk away, I feel it flooding again but I have no control to stop it.

Today I went for post op visit and the doctor examined me. Said he feels like a stitch from my vaginal cuff came loose from when I was violently throwing up 24-48 hours after surgery. Within 6 hrs of surgery, I was on the floor in my bathroom hugging the toilet and forcefully throwing up several times. I remember telling my DH that this can't be good for my incisions or insides.

So, the doctor tells me today that he feels it's peritoneal fluid leaking over the vaginal cuff---or through a small hole or something where a stitch came loose. He feels this because I do have the urge to urinate and I do go when I go to the bathroom.

Says we can give it a few days to see if through the healing
Recess it resolves itself, and if not, he will go in and add another stitch or two.

Does this sound normal, or has this happened to anyone else? Please help because I could really use a bit of reassurance right now!

peritoneal fluid? Day 10 post op DVH...anyone else?

Well, THIS can't be a good sign!!!

It's making me worried even more that I don't have any responses to my peritoneal question...kinda makes me feel like the Lone Ranger and Tonto has headed for the hills!!!

At post op yesterday (10 day) dr. Told me possible stitch loose from vaginal cuff and that was causing the peritoneal fluid to "leak". GUSH is more like it! I'm wearing largest incontinence pad and changing almost every hour!

Surely, this can't be good to keep loosing this much "fluid"?! Anyone else heard of this?

Any advice is much appreciated!

Re: Well, THIS can't be a good sign!!!

Hang in there Sunlover, if you don't get a response right away its most likely because the sisters that have had it have healed and moved on or the hostess just has not gotten around to checking on your post. If you are concerned, if there is red blood, if there is foul odor or strange color call your doctor and insist on getting back in or speaking to him/her.

I personally have no idea if its good bad or normal, I just didn't want to leave you hanging by yourself.

I'm sorry you feel alone. Is your dr aware of how much fluid you are loosing? Maybe put a call into dr's office just to make sure. Please keep us updated.

I kept my cervix..so I can offer no personal testimony. But I wanted you to know I read your post and feel for you. That would be terribly upsetting to deal with. Good thing you saw your doc right away.
Hopefully more of the sisters will be up and around pretty soon this morning and you will get some helpful feedback..hang in there!

No I don't think it sounds good and I'm surprised your Dr wants to wait. Did he actually do an internal exam and look for a hole? It may be bigger than he thinks, or maybe something else? I'd call back and be sure he understands, and say how uncomfortable you feel about just waiting. Surely this can't be right. I agree you have reason for concern. I hate to say to push your Dr, but I would not want to just sit and wait. Let us know what happens with this.

Nothing wrong with pushing your Dr. This is major surgery and you paid the Dr. to do a job and provide a service. This isn't like calling about a headache. I would insist. But then...I am like that.

Re: Well, THIS can't be a good sign!!!

Sorry you're feelin' alone out there. I don't know what the answer could be but I feel your concern. Even though it sounds like you just saw the doc I'd put in a call and ask for a more detailed explanation and a recheck. make sure they understand how much fluid you are losing. That sure seems like a lot. do you have other new symptoms too?

I hope you get answers today and some peace of mind.
