Vaginal Cuff ?'s

Since I came home on Wednesday I have had a few questions come up. I am hoping you ladies can help me out.

1) Can you tear your new cuff by sitting indian style
2) how about laying on your side.
3) can a BM tear it

I am asking because sometimes I feel a little pressure down there and I am paranoid not to hurt it

Thanks!

Re: Vaginal Cuff ?'s

Ive been hearing about cuff's, but I'm not sure what it is. Does that mean I don't have one? I'm sure my doc would have mentioned it, right? I'm scared of having a BM because of my catheter. I doubt I could push it out, but I'm still nervous LOL.

Re: Vaginal Cuff ?'s

If you had your cervix removed then you have a cuff. It is where they sew the vagina together where the cervix use to be. That is what makes me nervous, I don't want to do anything to hurt that repair.

Re: Vaginal Cuff ?'s

Scaredchic,

to the other side.

You should be able to sit indian style as long as you don't feel like you are straining.

When laying on my side I found that putting a small pillow under my tummy really helped. At first I even had my hubby put one behind my back for support.

BM can tear it so NO STRAINING!! Make sure you drink plenty of water, walk some and take stool softeners as prescribed by your doctor. I also found that prune juice and Metamucil really helped.

Rule of thumb - If it causes any pain, don't do it!

Make sure you follow all of your doctors instructions and call him if you have any questions or concerns. That's what he's there for.

Keep coming here for support - this site is awsome!

Your job right now is to

Re: Vaginal Cuff ?'s

I have a *cuff* (hate that word). It is what is left when they remove the cervix.

Sitting Indian Style will not tear the cuff. It might not be the most comfortable position to sit.

Laying on your side will not tear the cuff. I found it more comfortable especailly in a car on a bumpy road (Louisiana southbound Lake Ponchartrain Causeway), on the side, on a bumpy road, it seems to relieve or redistribute the forces of gravity as you go up and down.

Having a BM will not tear the cuff, it's not connected. Straining to have a BM will be uncomfortable so eat your veggies and keep it soft.

Lifting more than 10 lbs can tear the cuff. Sex too soon can tear the cuff. Oral sex and baths before cleared by your doctor can infect the cuff and make it weaker allowing tears to happen.

You now have a delicate flower bud (sounds far better than *cuff*). Treat it with respect as you heal and you will have no problems.

Your body is stronger than you think but respect the limits set forth by the doctor.

Happy Healing.

Re: Vaginal Cuff ?'s

I didn't know a BM could do that.

Re: Vaginal Cuff ?'s

Sitting Indian style won't harm your cuff, but it might hurt your hips/legs :-) I know it would hurt me, and I'm three years post-op!

You will be/are still swollen, inside, from the surgery. That is probably what is causing the sensation of pressure. Pushing down hard, like having a hard BM, can cause pain, but it would be extremely rare for that to cause damage. Mostly because the pain would stop you before you could really hurt yourself.

Pain pills can also cause some constipation. If you aren't already taking stool softeners, start taking them now.

Side lying won't hurt your cuff, but you might feel some pulling/pain in your belly. Grab a small pillow, tuck it up against your side, and then roll over. That will feel LOTS better.

And no, having a BM is not going to cause you to push out the catheter, EODwife85. You're safe there. It might be uncomfortable, but you can't push it out. Do take the stool softeners, though.

Ladies, you are doing FINE. Keep it up!!

Re: Vaginal Cuff ?'s

Thank you all so much! These are just things I never thought to ask. I was also curious, if I sit upright too much will that hurt it. My back is getting sick on laying in the recline position

Thanks

Basically, if it hurts, don't do it. If it doesn't hurt to move around, then move around. Keep your belly-pillow close by so that you can put it under your tummy, but your body is telling you to move around.

Can you walk yet? As in, get up and move around the house? Then do so. Slow, gentle, level walking is what your body needs to recover. And the walking will help relieve the pain in your back and legs.

Thank you, and yes I can walk. I have been walking since 2.5 hours after surgery. I pace around my house just to walk and then I thought I remembered reading that sitting upright is not good. I don't want to do anything to hurt myself. This is truly a change for me as I am on the go all of the time normally. Maybe it is just that my butt is not use to being sat on this much, hahahaha
