Counting down to surgery (7/26)

Had my bloodwork done today, except one lot that I have to get done on the day before surgery - they cannot do it in my home town because it is in a different state from where the surgery will be done. That means I have to leave a day earlier and stay overnight in the city before the surgery - more expense.

Well, that is a pain. Strange it has to be done that way, and not fun with extra expense of a hotel.

I had a TAH 6 weeks ago and live alone. My mom came in to check on me and help with taking out trash and such, but basically I stayed alone most of the time, Invest in some jello, pudding, soups. Things that are easy and quick. Make sure you have lots of things to drink. Buy a heating pad and ask your Dr to give you your prescriptions ahead of time so you can already have them filled. Another great tip- buy underwear about 3 sizes larger than usual. These were a godsend!! And just lay up and mend. It will be fine. And yes, you will still know yourself. Check this site for any questions you have, it really really helped me ALOT! God Bless

I am very upset right now, I telephoned my Mother, who had told me last Sunday that she would ring me in a day or two and did not call. Today is Friday.
My Mother has completely disregarded my wishes and has organized her husband to have time off work and come and stay here in my home with her while I am in hospital, has planned, on the Sunday, to take my 17yo son 4 hours drive away to their city (maybe visiting me in the way- after telling me she will not) and then coming back to my town when I leave hospital.

I am going to the town where I am having surgery on Wednesday and they would not get here until Wednesday night.

I cannot cope with her deception and lies - I knew she was up to something when she refused to phone me and would not look me in the eye when she was here last weekend. Mum is famous for manipulating situations to suit herself but this is ridiculous!
I just wanted her to come here (alone) while I was in hospital and stay here with my son. I made it very clear he was not to be taken to the city.
I am going to discuss this with my children and see what they think, though I am of the opinion that if they think they can manage I will tell my Mother not to come here at all.

Angelpuss I really agree with the last option you were considering if your children agree. It will take every ounce of your being to rest and heal. If the Mum can't follow your wishes you are better off with her not coming perhaps. The added stress and other people in your home you did not invite will complicate your healing and may do more harm than good.

I am so sorry you are having difficulties with your mum. That is really unfortunate that she cannot see past her own needs. Jadefox is right - you will need lots of energy to heal from this surgery. If you can eliminate some of the family dynamics for a while, so much the better.

We are surgery day sisters! I'll be joining you at the castle on the 26th, albeit in San Diego, California. Lol!

I'm having the same issues with my mom, and it got to the point where I just had to tell her that I wouldn't be needing her help (even though I could use it). I can't deal with the drama right now, and you shouldn't have to, either. We both need as little stress as possible during our recovery. I agree with everyone else here that this site is the place to come to feel nurtured and understood. I don't post much, but I devour everyone's posts.

I read the posts here, spoke to my children and then telephoned my Mother - and told her that if she cannot respect my wishes then do not come here.
Of course, she has now spoken to other family and twisted what I said but I do not care. This is my situation, not a platform for her dramas.
My children are organized and relieved Mum and her husband will not be here.

I have a question - I have to have a "Type and Hold" bloodwork but what does that mean? I was told it is where they take blood to use of it is needed during surger, but how much do they take? I am thinking of taking a trip over Monday and having it done, so I have until Thursday to build my blood back up for surgery. Can anyone tell me how much blood will be taken?

Dunno about the blood, but I imagine that your blood type is not one of the ones that they have a supply for. Be happy, you get your own blood, less reason for any mishaps.

I am going to get my remaining blood work done today - that way if they take some to keep in case it is needed for the surgery, I will have three days to build my body back up.
I have a 410 km drive, which is ok, but the antibiotics I am taking for my sinusitis have kicked in - I am feeling very nauseous.

My mother rang me yesterday, and has offered to stay here with us when I return home from hospital. I doubt she will stay more than a few days but I think that will be plenty. Her husband will not be coming with her! Perhaps Mum is finally listening to me?

Today is Monday - Thursday will be here before I know it!
