Just found out, need advice
Hello,
In 2009 after failing to become pregnant I found out I had a fibroid (4cm) and lots of scarring due to Endometriosis. I didn't have any symptoms from my fibroid and my doctor said they were common. This year I've started to have lots of symptoms, pain, pressure, bladder issues. My fibroid is now 11cm and my doctor says that a hysterectomy is my best option especially since I can't have kids due to the scarring.
My decision would probably be somewhat easy if it weren't for the fact that my ovaries are scarred to my uterus. She said she would attempt to separate them but there is a chance that it won't work and I would lose them too.
The things I read online are scary to me but then I talk to and read forums that seem like women don't regret too often having the surgery. I'm 33 and the idea of being on hormone replacement isn't ideal to me, but living with the pain isn't. My doctor said I could do the UFE thing but that because of the size of my fibroid it was bound to be quite painful. I'm willing to deal with pain but then it seems it doesn't really work well for many people? So to go through that and then have the hysterectomy anyway... well it's all a bit overwhelming. I know it's a very personal decision, but it's such a big one so I was looking for advice from people that have been through it. Thanks.

I am very happy I had my hysterectomy. I was able to keep my ovaries though, and I don;t think I would be happy if I had lost them. I never had UFE, so can't advise you there. I would maybe see an endometriosis specialist for a second opinion if I were you. A surgeon skilled in endo removal may be able to offer you some insight in the whole situation.

Re: Just found out, need advice
They can remove almost any size fibroid laproscopic myomectomy now its just finding the right doctor that will do it. A lot of times after a hysterectomy you will loose ovarian function within 3-5 years and that is really bad because you need your ovaries for overall health and heart health and HRT usually cannot replace what your body can actually make it just helps with hot flashes and stuff but adds no added heart health benefit. Always reconsider hysterectomy for fibroids unless you have cancer then you have no choice but to have one. There are a lot of options out there I would try something else and use hysterectomy as your last option not your first. Any doctor that says its your only and best option and you don't have cancer well then its time to find another doctor.

Re: Just found out, need advice
Hi berry:
Have you had a 2nd or 3rd medical opinion? In my own case, doctor #2 had much more cutting & pasting in mind for me than doctor #3.
Keep researching & asking questions. I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. I am sending huge cyberhugs
