Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 09-Jul 15,2012

Had da Vinci yesterday and got to come home the same night. I'm glad I came home and got to sleep in my own bed! Surgery went fine but had major bladder pain and trouble pst-op. they took the catheter out too early which caused my bladder to be too full which caused major pain and inability to urinate. They had to replace it to give my bladder a rest. Now all is working in that department. Feeling good today and keeping up on my pain meds at home.

I had my surgery Monday , home Tuesday and recovering at home the last two days. I really have had no pain but took a norco before I slept . Otherwise all I need is Motrin. I just hate the feel of the swollen belly but I have no trouble getting up, bending, getting dressed etc. Had what I think was a hot flash last night, which only made me worried if it is a preview of things to come . I just feel slow. Looking forward to getting back to normal. So glad for all the support here!

Hello,

I had LVH on July 10

My doctor found some endrometriosis, though not as much as she had expected with my history. She also found fibroids that had been undiagnosed plus more than the single polyp.

day 2 post op.

I thought I set up a thread yesterday but I was still very confused yesterday. I'm still muddled today as well. My procedure was 3 hours long.

I'm doing better at getting in and out of bed. I put a small step stool next to my bed to help me get in. I am still needing to alternate my pain meds every three hours.(ibuprophen and Percocet).

I had 1/2 a turkey sandwich for lunch and I was really hungry. Jello and decaf tea are still my main foods.

PJMJ123 - Just don't go too fast. Don't push yourself or you'll set back your recovery. My mil was doing great, felt great then had to spend 2 weeks on the couch. She made sure that I knew not to do much even if I felt great.

I am so swollen. Stomach, but my legs, thighs, ankles, feet. I try to keep them up as much as possible, but when I go for a walk or go to the bathroom, they well, right back up. Plus I have a pounding headache from the Norco. I feel miserable, but my doctor says I am doing better than his other patients. I am just going crazy sitting/lying around all day.

Hi there,

I had my surgery on the 9th of July at 6:00 am. I just came home today. The doctor said I did very well. She was happy to see my fat stomach as the there were two huge fibroids. My uterus had to go, I had a chocolate endo as my doctor described it, on my rt ovary, which had to go as well. But I kept my cervix and lt ovary is normal. I too used the push bottom for pain, but after two days I switched to tylenol, because it made me itch. The nurse gave me Benadryl, which made me really sleepy, that was fine. The challenge I have is coughing and laughing. It hurts when I do them. I have to think of a way not to use my abs muscles. But I am glad to be home, yay

HI! I had a TAH at about 2:30pm on Monday 7/9. I just got home a few hours ago.

I had some trouble with the narcotics making me throw up but we got that worked out. The GAS was HORRENDOUS! Like I had gas from my shoulders to my knees! OMG! Took the gas pills , did the gas suppository - they were not ordered for me but the Nurses got them ordered and I am very happy the Nurses did!

I don't feel bad today. Very sore abdominal muscled and I feel weak. My hemaglobin was low and they gave me IV iron in the hospital so this is probably from that. Take Care - more later!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 09-Jul 15,2012

HELLLLLOOOOOO Everyone!! I'm FINALLY home!! What an experience!
My surgery was Monday July 9th. When we arrived, we were taking to pre op right away and the surgery happened about an 1 1/2 after arriving. I DID NOT like coming out of the anesthesia!! I didn't get sick, but was very anxious, and my chest and shoulders felt really tight and uncomfortable. They gave me a total of 4 mgs of Morphine in the recovery area. (The anesthesiologist put in some kind of pain epideral before surgery)...
anywho, i was taken to my room and put on a pain pump of demerol. The pain wasn't too bad the 1st night, and i think this was due to the epideral. but the start of the 2nd day OMGOSH!!! I hurt!!! I was pushing that pump every 10 min. Later on that day, they took me off the pump and put me on percocet every 4 hrs. This worked better than the pump, but started wearing off after about 3 hrs. The pain the next night was unbearable!!! I called for pain meds at 0200 it took my nurse over an hr to get meds to me!!! I was NOT happy!!! dont they realize how much pain we are in and that we WANT to sleep!!! I got a total of 2 hrs of sleep and was there for 48 hrs! I DO have numbness around one of the incision sites though! It goes about two inches around the site. Has anyone else experienced this?
The doc came in and talked to me the morning after the surgery and said that i was loaded with endometriosis.. He didn't even know i had this prior to surgery.. i was diagnosed with Adenomyosis, constant pain and hemorrhaging during menstral cycle along with bleeding between menstrual cycles.
Well, yesterday was my 1st day back home and im so glad im back!!!! I left the hospital and went to Walmart to fill the script.. I shouldn't have done that!! I paid for it for the rest of the night.. people keep telling me to rest and not push yourself etc.. well i need to listen to them! I went to bed at 9 last night, and woke up at 1030 this morning!!! LOL
I'm doin' a little better today, not in as much pain. I took a shower and that wore me OUT!!! I didn't think that i needed to baby myself this much!! YIKES!!!
I sure hope i didnt ramble too much! I have all these thoughts in my head i wanna type and i think i'm just typing them as i think of them! LOL...
Hope everyone is doing good after theirs!!

Here's a great tip I learned on hystersisters that helped me SO much...
Before you make a movement such as trying to get out of bed or standing, take a deep breath and as you breathe out, make the movement. You can't tighten up your stomach muscles while breathing out and the pain is much less than it would be
Laura, you're a godsend, since reading your post I've been doing as you've suggested and have been breathing out when moving. The difference is amazing! I'm no longer scared to move, and when I do, as long as I'm still slow and careful there's virtually no pain at all, thank you so much xx
