Re: Waiting for cone biopsy results - AIS

Hi ladies! I'm still alive. I'm 13 days post-op after my radical hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy. The doc said my ovaries looked fine, so I got to keep them. Had a few issues during surgery - some minor nerve damage in one hand and one leg (the neurologists think it's temporary) and of course I got to come home with a Foley catheter. My bladder wasn't working at all. I also ended up staying in the hospital for 4 nights due to those reasons, and my inability to eat real food for quite a while. Overall, it wasn't as bad as I thought - I was up and walking around the hospital ward the day after surgery - started with one lap and worked up to 3 by the time I left. Of course, the dilaudid drip that I had control over could have been why my time in the hospital was mostly pain-free.

Since I've been home, I've been sleeping a lot and not doing much of anything. If anyone's curious about what kind of meds they send you home with, here's what I got - dilaudid for breakthrough pain (vicodin doesn't work for me, so they gave me this awesome stuff...), ibuprofin for pain, an antibiotic (to prevent UTIs while I have the catheter), Lovenox injections (daily for 2 weeks to prevent blood clots) and a stool softener. Heading down to UCLA today for my 2 week follow up where I'll get my bladder checked to see if I can go without a catheter and I'll get my pathology reports from surgery. Whee hoo. Hopefully this will be the end of my cancer journey other than check ups. The surgeon is confident the surgery got everything, so fingers crossed!

Sounds pretty good overall, despite the minor bumps. Fingers crossed for a boring path report! Take it easy and remember to

Re: Waiting for cone biopsy results - AIS

I'm glad your surgery went well (except for the catheter and nerve damage) Hopefully you'll be able to get the catheter out and the rest will heal soon, too! I also hope your Path report is good today and this will be the end of cancer for you!

Re: Waiting for cone biopsy results - AIS

wow, what a journey! it sounds like you've come out relatively unscathed, which is fantastic. here's hoping the nerve damage and bladder problems resolve quickly and have no lasting effect. as for the dr saying he got all the cancer, that is wonderful news

*happy dance for sam*
