Boyfriend is leaving beacuse I can't have kids

Hello, I'm looking for a little emotional support. I'm 33 years old and my bf is 32. I am 5 weeks post op...but had about 2-3 weeks of complications, so I'm just starting to feel like myself again. I thought things were going great until my boyfriend started to break up with me on the phone yesterday and his reason is that he wants to be able to have kids. He stopped, said he needed to do some thinking and we'd talk in person on saturday. I'm pretty sure he's decided that he's done with the relationship but feels that he should break up in person. I'm hurt and angry over this because I would never break up with someone over an issue that they can't control and I think I deserve the same respect. I feel that he should be more concerned with WHO I am rather than WHAT I can provide for him. Does anybody have advice for me?

Were you in a serious enough relationship that you had discussed having children together?

I know this probably feels like a slap in the face but could he just need time to work out his own emotions about the change in your plans together?

Re: Boyfriend is leaving beacuse I can't have kids

We talked about it before my surgery. He said that he wanted kids, but would still want to stay with me if I couldn't. At the time, I remember wondering if he was really telling the truth. I guess my instincts were right...I didn't want to believe it though.

What really bothers me is how this makes me feel. I feel like I'm less of a woman...like I'm broken.

I agree with the other girls. Maybe he needs time to work it out for himself. On the other hand, if he can't accept it, then you really will be better off. Hard, heartbreaking, I am sure. That is a lot to deal with all at the same time, but I am a firm believer in fate and God's roll in our lives. With or with out the boyfriend you will be okay. I am sorry you are going through it though...HUGS

I was right. He came over today. Broke up with me because I can't have kids. I guess he wasn't the one afterall.

(((((Big Hugs)))))))

I'm so sorry you're hurting, sweetie. But look at it this way....if he is going to ditch you in your time of need, is this really the guy you want to spend the rest of your life with? As we all know, life has ups & downs and marriage is for better OR for worse.

You are young and there is someone out there who is worthy of your love and being in your life.

You are every bit the woman you were before you had your surgery. However, he isn't the man he said he was.

I want to say, "what a jerk!" but at the same time I think it's better for the relationship to end if he can't get past this bump in the road. No festering and resentment that way. I know that doesn't bring much comfort and I know your heart is hurting right now. I'm sorry you're going through this on top of everything else.
