last period--mixed emotions

With my LAVH scheduled for Friday and my period about to start, I am having some weird emotions. For something that has caused me so much agony for thirty years, I can't believe these feelings of sadness over its loss. It has ruled so much of my life (pain, mess, what I wear in case of leaking, dragging myself into work, running to the restroom, planning events around the calendar, etc.). It's just such a strange concept to me. Anyone else having these feelings?

Re: last period--mixed emotions

I don't think it's your period exactly. I think it's knowing you can't get pregnant again. Even if it's not something you want, or can being age or whatever.. It still kinda takes something from you. I'm on the other side now. 2.5 weeks out, and I feel a little less in a way.. But I can tell you this, I KNOW that feeling is going to pass, because even being 2.5 weeks out, I would have had at LEAST one, but up to 3 periods by now had I not had surgery.

I think you are very normal though to have those feelings. It hit me all at once that.. Wow, I'm 26, and I can't have any more kids. We have 3, and are content with 3, but knowing the option isn't there was what got me a little.

Re: last period--mixed emotions

I would have been due to have my period the week after my surgery. I didn't miss it then and I sure don't miss it now. My period has always been a point of contention for me from the very beginning. I remember asking the doctor as a teen how could I permanently stop the madness.

I'm 48, I've already had my kids and absolutely had not intension of have anymore. My last surprise was God showing his sense of humor when I was 40. I had my tubes tied after her and it seemed like my cycles got heavier.

They only reason it took me so long to have the surgery wad because after 2 c- sections I didn't want to have another surgery. So no mixed emotions for me just, one of wanting it to be over.
I had my surgery on March 26 and it was the best thing that ever happened to me

I pray that you have a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!!!

Re: last period--mixed emotions

I just started today what will be my last period if I don't chicken out again with my planned SAH (or TAH) on the 24th. I completely understand your feeling sad. I feel like my uterus has both blessed me with 5 great kids (and some giant fibroid babies too ) but the last 5 years have been a nightmare and yet I don't want to let the old girl go. It certainly does become your life - the monthly planning - maybe we will realize a fantastic freedom afterwards that will replace the sadness and feelings of loss.
