Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

So, I had the big "everything prolapsed" surgery in Dec 2010 and now I am going for a cystocele repair (it has fallen) on the 31st of July. The doctor is doing it as an outpatient and it all sounds super easy...has anyone had a cystocele repair done alone? Is it as easy as it sounds? Do you go home with a catheter??

I go in for a pre-op visit on the 30th but am just anxious to get some more answers before then (should've asked more at the appointment...)

Thanks for the help!

Re: Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

I think whether you go home with a catheter or not depends on how your body reacts after surgery. If you're too swollen or not. I've had 3 different surgeries and never had to go home with a catheter. All of my recoveries have been fairly easy, just make sure you follow the recover rules.

Re: Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

Hey I had a hysterectomy 3 yrs ago, and now I think I'm feeling my bladder down in my vagina. No other symptoms, like leaking or anything. IS THIS WHAT HAPPENS normally?
I should have asked if I had a prolapsed uterus, and my uterus was taken out (full hysterectomy), that now my bladder is prolapsing. Looking for answers? Do they make an insert to keep the bladder in tact? Will it stay w/o a uterus?

Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

Hi. Re-repair is something I am trying to get myself around too, so I am very interested to know about someone else's experience, how it went, how long recovery is, and as much about success with mesh as possible. The pessary I had fitted at the end of June didn't last any more than 4 hours, I could not pee, intense pain trying to, so I pulled it out, I don't know if this is because it was the wrong size or for any other reason. Passing water was ok without it in, no leakage either, getting verrry fed up with it all now, want it fixed forever. Sorry for so much information, seeing consultant again on Tuesday, a 'fit in' appointment. Sorry for venting my frustration, please let us all know how things work out for you Kat. X

Re: Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

I had the same issues with the pessary thing...ugh! I tried a bunch but they were pretty unpleasant and painful and I am really hoping this repair fixes things for real this time!

I will definitely post and let you know how it goes. Surgery is on the 31st.

As for the previous post, if you feel your bladder falling into your vagina, that sounds like prolapse. You may feel it at the opening or protruding through the opening depending on what stage it is at. You can typically kind of push it up and down with your finger...kind of icky but true. YOu may also find that you have to move around to get your urine to start when you have to pee or that you have trouble emptying. In my case, I have trouble starting and then when the doc checked me, I was retaining a good bit of urine as well. The bladder can definitely stay in without the uterus (I don't have a uterus either). Your doctor can either use your ligaments or some kind of mesh to hold it up depending on what you need. I recommend seeing a urogynecologist if you can! Good luck!

Re: Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

My TVH was 8 years ago and I discovered and was diagnosed with a grade 3 cystocele a few months ago. I had surgery in May to have it repaired and found the two recoveries quite different in ways.

I didn't have any pain really, just some mild discomfort. I found it difficult to sit for about 8 weeks. I sat on a pillow. I had a catheter while in the hospital overnight but it was removed the next morning and I was able to void well so I didn't have to come home with it. I didn't have a catheter after my TVH so that was new to me.

I had some slight discharge for a couple of weeks (I didn't have any after my TVH) and at times it felt like I had a tampon in due to swelling. I'm doing much better now and feeling better.

I wish you the very best!

Re: Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

Thanks, I don't have any urine issues at all, I can just kinda feel it down there, like I did when my uterus was prolapsing. THANK GOD FOR WOMEN HERE WHO WILL TALK!~ GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!! I'm going to drastically try doing situps, kegals, being very strict about losing 25 lbs and see if I can get it to improve before I head out to Dr. office. Have you seen all the TV commercials about mesh operations being sued?

Re: Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

Hello. So far I haven't seen on tv commercials about mesh, I am in UK, we get others about accidents etc. I know about the problems with mesh, my urogyn told me but I had researched on-line so wasn't a suprise, yes, its good to talk here. Looking forward to hearing how you are, wishing you a good recovery, please keep us up to date. X

Red face - Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect?? Re: Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

I had a prolapse which went back up some when the doctor removed the uterus and fibroids. I am hoping and praying that everything stays up. We do have commercials on frequently about a recall for Transvaginal Mesh. I live in Ohio. It sounds like a Pessary is not the way to go. It sounds like they are difficult to fit from what I read on here.

Re: Cystocele RE-repair in Two Weeks...What to expect??

On June 25 this year, I had rectocle and cystocle repaired plus a bladder sling and a hystectomy. They left my ovaries. It will be 4 wks tomorrow since my surgery. I know I am not supposed to have anything in my vagina. But me and my husband my frisky this afternoon and I had a Orgasm I am so nervous and scared that I was not supposed to do that. Was that ok to do?
