Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 16-Jul 22,2012

Hi Sisters, 2 days post-op and feel good. Had abdominal with the removal of uterus and ovaries. Doctor decided to leave the cervix. I also had a large dermroid cyst removed which thank God was benign. Recovery is going well so far. I had a low grade fever and was backed up on my urine but with antibiotics and intravenous solution those problems have subsided. I do have gas pain and had a bm. What is really bothering me is back. I think the worst part for me was the first time I got up to walk to the bathroom. The more I walk the easier it gets and I do better afterwards. Recovery is no walk in the park. However, I'm thrilled to be on the other side. I wish everyone a speedy recovery!

Umass gal - you don't have to just stay in bed. It's perfectly ok to take walks. Just don't push yourself and walk really far and not take into account that you have to get back. I started with walking around the house for at least 5 minutes every hour and increased time by 5 minutes every other day. When I saw my body tolerated that I added going from my house to my mailbox, then down 3 houses. Everything was gradual. So don't bore yourself to death that to me may push you into doing something overboard. Hope that helps

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 16-Jul 22,2012

I can't believe how good I feel. I have been reducing the frequency of my pain meds. DH has been wonderful. He even took the week off from work to pamper the . Which is surpising since he is a workaholic. My parents are also here. And my friends have been bringing dinner in. I am seriously being spoiled.

I have been walking around, going up and down stairs a couple times a day. I think am hoping to get to only taking Advil in the next day. It is probably good that I have so many people watching me, because they won't let me push myself. My Mom has an vertical abdominal hyst. last year. I am so glad I was able to have DaVinci.

Still haven't had a BM. The gas is unreal.

Hugs!

Thanks. I was only sleeping in bursts too the first day. It was due to the pain meds they were giving me. They switched those and then I finally slept for a few hours.
Hope we get our gas issues resolved soon.

This is my first day home post-op. I had my davinci hysterectomy yesterday and it went a lot bettervthan I expected. The worst part was the IV being placed. I was calm after that and didn't need the mere for nerves. I am super happy with everything. Now I am going to go nap for a bit!

Had my hysterectomy yesterday (7-17-12) Got home today at 12:00pm. I'm walking around slowly - eating when I feel hungry - resting as much as possible. I have been able to urinate regularly although the urine is quite dark (not sure if there's blood mixed in) I am not having any discharge. My only concern is the cramping from the gas. I've taken Gas -X, and am drinking lots of water. Very uncomfortable. I wish I could some how release the gas, but having no luck. Any ideas would be great!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 16-Jul 22,2012

I am so happy to see so many of you posting. I don't think I have ever had this many posts on a Recovery thread this early!!! So glad to know you are feeling up to it!!!

A few things I wanted to remind you....

If your pain medication is not working, please talk to your I'm sure there is something else they can try. Staying ahead of the pain is very important. Your doctor wants you to be as comfortable as possible, so make sure you let them know.

I know a lot of you are having some gas pains and they can be HORRIBLE!! Please ask your doctor if you can take some GasX! It really does help. Another thing that really helped me was (it also helped for BM!!) Walking can also help to get things moving so walk as much as you can, but as LaineyLaine said...don't forget where ever you walk....you have to walk back, so don't over do it.

Please make sure you are drinking plenty of water. This helps with BM and gas as well as other aspects of your healing.

I know some of you are feeling surprisingly well, and that is great! I'm excited for you. Just remember to take it easy, and don't try to do too much too soon. I know that is easier said than done, but you will be glad you got your rest.

Please, if you haven't had the chance to do so, check out the Checkpoints for Weeks 1 and 2 to give you an idea of what you may expect this week and next week. There is also a Video that you might find helpful as well.

Again, I'm so glad so many of you are feeling so well and I'm sorry to those who are having a lot of pain. Just remember, this is just the beginning of your journey and it does take time. Now that you are on the other side, there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!

Sending you all healing thoughts and great
