Blood Pressure Issues?

Hi Sisters,

I had my surgery May 30th. Had everything removed. I have flashes and the sweats fall off me like rain. I don't want to use HRT. Since the surgery, I have been having problems with elevated blood pressure. Most of the time it's good but every it does spike from time to time. Has anyone else had blood pressure issues since their surgery?

Re: Blood Pressure Issues?

Firewalker2.0: It's funny you should mention that . . my B/P has been fluctuating for a while now, but when I went for my 4 week check, it was the highest it has ever been 139/89! B/P problems run in the family, so I don't know if the Hysto added to the problem or what. I am going to make an appointment w/my family Dr. soon to get bloodwork and such. I have a B/P cuff and try to monitor it when I remember to do so . .. I think to do it AFTER I have been moving around . . I need to try to be idle for awhile then take it. Best wishes sister, let me know how it goes! <Hugs>

Re: Blood Pressure Issues?

High BP runs in my family too. I have been medicine free since 2006. Just thought it odd to flair up all of a sudden. The highest was 168/110 immediately after the surgery. Now just spikes off/on but only max of 140's over 90's. Will update once I see doc.

Re: Blood Pressure Issues?

I had high blood pressure for some time following my hysterectomy. And than the levels would fluctuate alot! Before surgery I always ran low normal, after surgery I was borderline high. I did a test one day and checked my levels about every 15 minutes, the numbers were really erratic. Thankfully after about six months my levels smoothed out again. I think it had to do with the surgery.

Re: Blood Pressure Issues?

Interesting to note, which I forgot in my post above, I was using and still use hrt. Yes, always best to consult with your doctor. Better to always err on the side of caution. I did consult with my doctor when my levels started increasing dramatically.

Re: Blood Pressure Issues?

Yes........I had huge spikes in blood pressure post surgery. I just got off of high blood pressure pills which I was on for over a year. My doctor said that my body must be leveling off as I am two years post surgery. He said at the beginning that my body was not adjusting well without hormones. He wouldn't dare suggest at that time to take HRT, nor will he now. I've been off the HB pills for 5 weeks, and I feel great. I got my energy back too! Everyone's body is different. Took me over two years to adjust to a new body. You just have to be patient.

Re: Blood Pressure Issues?

Yes, I was like Kim...low normal my whole life.

After surgery..WOW! All over the map. My highest measured was 192/107. My lowest 111/74.

None of the new BP meds helped the spikes. I've found very small amount clonidine and watching carb/process foods intake to be the most beneficial. I've also found it goes up and down based on where I am in the whole hormone cycle. I believe it would have settled now if I wasn't on hormones and following the way of eating I do now.

I was shruggin my shoulders over it all since I figured the hysterectomy caused it and it'd probably settle down; and I'd had a cardiac cath and was told I had the heart muscle and arteries of a 20 year old with almost zero plaque. Then I watched a TV show that stressed even more of a worry than stroke or heart attack, is what HBP does to your kidneys. So then I started paying attention.

Re: Blood Pressure Issues?

139/89 really isn't all that high. Keep an eye on it and watch if it gets higher. You may need to consider a blood pressure medication eventually, but probably not yet.

I've been on Benicar and my BP's been in good shape, after spiking badly 5 years ago after a cyst surgery. I'm not on HRT and don't plan to.

Re: Blood Pressure Issues?

Hi FireWalker2.0! Thank you for posting this. I'm four months post-op, no HRT & no ovaries. My pressure has been all over the place and I was getting worried. I've been on BP meds for 5yrs & it runs in my family also. Before surgery I was stable. I also have migraines after sex. I don't think that's normal, but everyday is something different. Peace & Blessings!
