No bowel prep?

Well, I finally got my surgery date today. It will be on August 10th. I cannot wait to get this gigantic fibroid out of me!

After reading a lot of posts here, I was really dreading the bowel prep, but when I asked the doctor today about it, she said, "Nope, no need for that." I thought it was routine. Anyone else not have to do it?

Also, how do you add your surgery date to show in the upper right corner. I looked where you edit your profile and could not find it.

Thanks.

Re: No bowel prep?

Tralynn,

No bowl prep was required for me. Doc's have their own ways of doing things, some require it and some don't. Be glad!! If you aren't instructed to do a bowl prep, don't do one. It's important to follow your doctor's instructions.

To put your date in the header go to your User Control Panel and update the 'Edit Your Details' under Your Profile.

Re: No bowel prep?

I didn't have bowel prep either despite known surgical adhesions to bowel. Dr said it would knock me around too much and affects your electrolyte balance which makes it harder on your heart and for anaesthetist during a long surgery. They give you different IV solutions if you have bowel prep which is why it is so important to do it only if your doctor orders it and no extra. I was fine without it. Don't seem to have had as bad gas as others and already soft BM. Be glad you don't need it

Re: No bowel prep?

I also didn't have it, had a TAH and they said it wasn't needed, just gave me a gentle laxative afterwards while in hospital and that helped a lot, I didn't have any major bowel issues. I'd say take it as a bonus

Re: No bowel prep?

Oh, believe me, I'm thrilled. I just wanted to see if it was common. I'm glad my doctor is of the no-bowel-prep-needed school of thought. Yippee!

And thanks for the instructions, Pattypat. It worked, as you can see.

Re: No bowel prep?

Nope, didn't have to do a bowel prep and was so glad that it was one less thing that I had to do.

Re: No bowel prep?

No bowel prep for me. I think it depends on the doctor. One less thing to worry about. I hope your surgery goes smooth and you will be home recovering before you know it :-)
