bladder now prolapsing after uters taken out for same problem
Hey I had a hysterectomy 3 yrs ago, and now I think I'm feeling my bladder down in my vagina. No other symptoms, like leaking or anything. IS THIS WHAT HAPPENS normally?
I should have asked if I had a prolapsed uterus, and my uterus was taken out (full hysterectomy), that now my bladder is prolapsing. Looking for answers? Do they make an insert to keep the bladder in tact? Will it stay w/o a uterus?
WOULD BE GREAT IF THEY HAVE A BLADDER PESSARY? Anyone heard of that?

Re: bladder now prolapsing after uters taken out for same problem
Hello jfj,
Prolapsing of the pelvic floor can happen after hysterectomy. There are different methods of repair such as slings, mesh or sutures. Yes, it can stay attached after a hysterectomy but if your vaginal vault or pelvic floor is weak your odds of prolapsing again is higher. The first thing you should do is get a referral to a urogynecologist that specializes in pelvic floor repairs. If you cannot see a urogynecologist then a urologist would be the next option. Gynecologists do not generally do bladder repairs.
Before deciding on surgery you can try vaginal estrogen cream to help strengthen the pelvic floor and/or pelvic floor physical therapy. If those don't work then you can also try a pessary which can hold up the bladder without surgery. If those non surgical options don't work then you are looking at surgery to reattach the bladder.

Yes, you should be able to be fitted with a pessary after hysterectomy. However, if you are not leaking and have just a small prolapse your doctor may prescribe the estrogen cream and kegel exercises to try to reverse the prolapse. In the meantime, avoid heavy lifting and straining during BM's.

GOD BLESS YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ANSWER. I do have a pessary that was fitted to me before my hysterectomy, will that one work? Was afraid if I stick it up there, may not be able to find it or recover it

I really cannot advise you about that. You should speak to your doctor that fitted you with it.

I am sorry You really need to see a doctor. Can you try a local health clinic?
