WELCOME!!! Glad that your first few days went so well! It is very normal to still be in so much pain days after. I have had several surgeries in which adhesions were removed and the pain from those lasted longer then when I did not have any removed. I would call your surgeon and explain your pain, if he doesn't want to give you any more I suggest calling your PCP. I hope your pain settles down very soon!!

WELCOME!!! Sorry the lying around has aggravated your back and also that you lost both ovaries. I hope that you don't experience any hotflashes or if you do they be very mild!

My legs and ankles are very swollen, I keep drinking a lot of water and juice and peeing a lot, but still a lot of swelling.
I had a large tumor on my right ovary(as large as my head, and weight about 5.5 lbs) that was the main reason for my surgery, and i will turn 50 Aug 5, so just told him take "whatever" i didnt want to have to go back in later on. Lol
So far all the tests have come back clean, but pretty large cut about 3 inches above belly button, and all the way down, so I sure my recovery will be awhile. Good luck to all recoveries and future "sisters"

WELCOME!!!! Sorry that you had to have such a large incision, but glad they got the tumor out and that the tests are clean so far. Keep an eye on the swelling and I think I would even give the dr a call about it. If you are peeing a lot and still have bad swelling they may want to take a look. Keep us updated!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 23 - 29, 2012
Hi Sisters,
I had a TAH last Wed. Got a little complicated and I ended up with a larger than usual incision but it's on my bikini line and very neat. Lost my left ovary but with a little work the surgeon managed to save the right one so I was thrilled. Apparently I had fibroids AND cysts for them to deal with.
Apparently Morphine and I don't like each other and I was pretty ill Wed night, all day Thurs and most of Fri but as I don't remember much it was pretty much my partners problem. And he came through with flying colours. Surprised the hell out of me but he never left my side and was really quite sweet. Who knew?
After that things have gone well. Drainage tube, drip and catheter came out easily, stool softeners made toilet issues a non event and I have had no vaginal discharge since Friday.
Home now and pain pretty low but insomnia a real issue and I'm resting but tired. Still, all in all, I think I have not had it so bad and when it was bad I was out to it and off the planet anyway. LOL
Good luck to all those facing their surgery. I hope all the bad bits happen when you are not with it too. Good luck.

I thought I would share the most amazing ice bags. 1 cup of rubbing alcohol 2 cups of water. Put into gallon ziplock bags(I double the bags) freeze overnight. They freeze to a slushie type mixture, so you can form them around any area. Be sure to wrap them in a towel or pillowcase(they are very cold). I took one to bed with me, last night, it was great. Then I woke up with hot flashes, the ice bag helped cool me down too ! Good luck to all..

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 23-29,2012
Hello. I had a da Vinci on 7/27 they were able to leave my ovaries but took everything else. It's been a rough recovery. My surgery was almost 3 hours long, they gave me Dilodid pca (which I told them prior to surgery I was allergic to). They had to give me tons of Benadryl and stop the pca. My four incisions are about 2 inches long each, two of which hurt, bad. They would not take my catheter out for 24 hours (I had a PE 2 months ago and they made me wear the leg compressions for 24 hours). The gas pain has been and still is horrible. The hospital wouldn't let me go home till I passed gas, a day and a half after surgery. I'm home now, still having gas pains, no real bm, taking stool softeners, Metamucil, and gas x. It's def the most painful plus trying to find an unbruised place on my stomach for my Lovenox shots. It's not been easy but it's slowly getting better. They have me on Percocet which I've just been using to help me sleep. It will be a journey but I know it will be well worth it. I was on my period for 4 straight months, cramping, and endo. So mine hasn't been the great recovery most have had from the da Vinci I attribute some of that to my PE and all the precautions they had to do. I'm confident I will feel better soon. Thanks for all the support!

Ok. I'm a week out and thinking "What was I thinking?" Have I simply traded one set of symptoms for another? Maybe I should have left well enough alone.
Since the surgery my right hip is numb. I keep forgetting to mention it to the doc because other more painful symptoms are at the forefront.
I never had any urinary symptoms until now. Pain and difficulty emptying. Then came bowel impaction-what fun! Will I be better off for having done this? So far I'm not convinced.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 23-Jul 29,2012
Please keep your head up and remember that they symptoms we all have right now are part of the recovery process- a short term process- whereas the pain and symptoms we had prior to surgery were here to stay if we hadn't done this. 1 week out isn't very long when you consider all that was done and that they say it can be a 6 week recovery on average.
I understand how you feel, if you are like me you are normally a very busy person and this sitting around is hell. I feel like I'm gonna go nuts and its not even a full week since surgery. to think ill be sitting around at least another couple of weeks is crazy sounding, however every time I try to do more than I should my body quickly lets me know I'm pushing it (dizzy, hot, sore, etc)
Don't judge your decision to have this done until after you've fully recovered...you'll only upset yourself and that'll make it all seem worse.
Hang in there! It'll get better! Hugs!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 23-Jul 29,2012
I had my surgery Wednesday, 7.25. I had one ovary out last October, and my dr. said the pain this time would be about the same....he was way wrong. The pain of a hysterectomy is both different and worse! Anyway, I had my "setback day" yesterday....stayed up too long, was tired, dizzy, blech, weepy. My bf says I did the same thing last year! Today is better...I slept 12 hours last night. Today I'm getting up some then laying back down, taking it easy. Pain is much better, is more concentrated where the incisions are and gas pains, rather than generalized pain. Which, really, is an improvement!
