Hi Jonpatti - you are special, you have joined the exclusive club of Hystersisters. It's a place where we all have had the same surgery, perhaps in different formats or for different reasons but we have one thing in common.

Happy healing and enjoy being spoiled by your loved ones.

Hola Beautiful Sisters! I have been reading the posts since Wed. morning, but have not been comfortable enough to type much (still not); I had SAH on Tuesday at noon and they tossed me out of the hopsital on Thursday! I have a 9 inch vertical incision from pubic bone to belly button with 20 pretty staples. The doc said my uterus was bigger than a water melon, so I thought my abdomen would look at least a little smaller, but it looks bigger... and boy does it all hurt. My husband just asked me to make him breakfast. We are gonna have to have a little talk. my only agenda for today is trial and error to find a comfortable spot to perch. I love reading your posts, glad so many are doing so well. I am grateful to be alive (if you read any of previous posts, I was IRRATIONALLY afraid of not waking up post op. So, I am glad for that mental relief, now on to recovery.

Hi Brady44 - think you and DH have to have a serious chat
:-). Hi expectations of you making him breakfast 3 days post-op is hugely unfair, especially after what you've been through. Hopefully he was joking and he'll be making you breakfast for the next few weeks. Suggest you leave the computer open on a recovery thread so he can read the do / do nots lol!

Happy healing.

Hi everyone!
I had my LAVH/BSO/A&P first thing Monday morning. After some time of adjustment we got the post op pain under control. Tuesday started pretty badly with more pain, but again we managed it. Wednesday they sent me home but I wished I could have stayed longer.
Today I am in agony from constipation. I feel like I'm impacted but dr says not. Dulcolax suppositories and more water. I've had a bm

My doctor typically keeps patients overnight and lets them go in the morning. However, after they took out my catheter last night I wasn't able to pee. I stayed up most of the night trying since I didn't think I could go home without doing that. Finally today, I have been able to pee some if I turn on the water and pee standing up only!

Now they are unhappy that I havent passed gas. They tell me I won't go home until they can hear more gurgling. The gas pains are finally beginning to move around a little moreso I'm hoping we see some improvement when the doctor comes back this afternoon.

Hope everyone else is doing ok! Marion
Hi!
Try not to stress too much, it sounds like they may have taken your cath out a little early. I had my surgery just this week on Tuesday & mine stayed in until Wednesday morning (the day they sent me home), I just had a restriction that I had to potty before they would release me. You bladder needs time to relax and wake up just like your brain from all the IV meds. Take one day at a time & try not to compare yourself to others recoveries. I am only looking at mine & hoping each day is an improvement. All the best to you & Have a Blessed Day! Gayla

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Jul 23-Jul 29,2012

Can anyone help clear up the menopause after hysterectomy question?
Two years ago I had my fallopian tubes removed because instead of bleeding, the blood was backing up in to my tubes & causing a great deal of pain. When I asked my dr. about menopause after my hysterectomy on Tuesday, she mentioned I might have more menopausal symptoms from the tube removal than this. BTW - I was able to keep both ovaries.

Also, what can I expect with going back to work on Monday or Tuesday next week. Due to a job layoff earlier this year I unfortunately do not have time off. I had the DaVinci surgery so am hopeful this will help with my recovery.
Many Thanks !
Gayla

WELCOME!!! Sorry you are so uncomfortable I hope you have had a chat with your hubby already!! You should be resting, drinking plenty of water, resting, walking, resting, get the picture:O) I don't think your fear of not waking from the anesthesia was irrational. Many of us have had that thought. Although my hyster was vaginal, I had open gallbladder surgery many years ago that resulted in an incision about the same size as you, though diagonal from between my rib cage to just a few inches above my right hip. Something to keep in mind when moving and getting in/out and up/down is to take a deep breath and when you let it out make your move. You can't clench your muscles tight and breath out at the same time. A lot of us tend to clench everything thinking it will help, but all it really does is over use muscles we want to keep relaxed. Hang in there!!

WELCOME!!!! So sorry you have had a hard time getting your pain under control. I'm betting the reason you feel impacted is from all the sweling since you had the works done. Good job on calling the dr and keep an eye on it, especially if you stop having bm. Sending you some extra healing hugs!!!
