Stool softener at 5 weeks post op

Hey ladies! I was just wondering if anyone else is still having to use a stool softener at 5 weeks post op? I have been taking it every day since my 4 week post op appt per my doc's advice bc my stitches hadn't even begun to dissolve. Yesterday I missed a dose and was miserable. Just want to know if anyone else is dependent on stool softeners so far into recovery?

Re: Stool softener at 5 weeks post op

I have been taking 2 a day since Day 1 along with oatmeal for breakfast and a couple of prunes daily. If I miss any of this, I'm struggling & uncomfortable.

Re: Stool softener at 5 weeks post op

I will be 4 weeks post op tomorrow, and I take 1 every other day, seems to help me that way, when I was taking 2 a day as directed I LIVED on the toilet. I too eat a bowl of oatmeal every morning.

Re: Stool softener at 5 weeks post op

I am 3 weeks post-op and am still taking my stool softeners 2 times a day. I had horrible constipation in the first week after surgery and am afraid if I don't keep taking it to help keep regular at least for a while I may tear something. I also had some posterior repair done as well as the hysterectomy.
Good luck in your recovery!

Re: Stool softener at 5 weeks post op

Lol I have the pressure pain too! I feel so much better that others are still on the stool softeners as well. I know this part will probably take awhile with all of the internal healing going on. I hope we all are able to "go" easier soon :-)
