3-1/2 years and no looking back

I just wanted to share my experience with a TAH. I have had 5 children. 2 of my 5 children were born by c-section. I have always had heavy periods that lasted 7 or more days. Since I was a teenager my periods would put me down for 2 days or more. With each child, my periods got worse. My doctor kept telling me that I needed the hysterectomy, but I kept putting if off. I was afraid it was going to change my life. I was worried that it was going to effect my sex life and my marriage. I thought it was going to change me somehow.

Well my periods kept getting worse. I would get a period every 15 days or so, and they would last 7-10 days. I didn't have a life anymore so I gave in.

I had to have abdominal surgery because of the c-sections. My doctor said that scar tissue from the previous surgerys could of adhered to my internal organs, so it was the safest way to go.

I had the surgery, I did bleed alot, but I did not have to have a transfusion. I kept my ovaries and tubes. I left the hospital in two days on motrin 600mg. It took a few weeks to be up and around. I have a good support group, between my husband and my older daughters.

It was by far, one of the best decisions of my life. I have my life back! No more bleeding, no more cramps, no more feeling like I could pass out from loss of blood. It's been 3-1/2 years since my surgery and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner!
