Re: D&C Wenesday aug,1 scared

It was found after the D & C. I had to wait a few days for the Path report to get read after the D & C. I didn't have a biopsy this time around.

Re: D&C Wenesday aug,1 scared

greenville1, probably all of us were scared. I was terrified before my D&C because I was afraid of being put to sleep. As the others have said, we just prepare as best we can and pray for the best results.

In my case, I had had fibroids for years and they did ultrasounds periodically. This last time the ultrasound showed some different results and I had a D&C. Following the D&C, the surgeon said of course we had to wait for the pathology report, but she was pretty sure it was cancer, which the path report confirmed. The path report after my hysterectomy showed that I did have fibroids as well. While fibroids themselves are not generally malignant, we can certainly have both.

Best wishes to you! It is difficult and nerve-wracking, but you can do this!

Re: D&C Wenesday aug,1 scared

They usually do a pelvic wash during the surgery to see if there's any "floating cells" in there. In my case there were. My Gyn/onc believes they were flushed in there during the D & C/ Hysteroscopy. I don't say this to scare you but this sometimes happens during the Hysteroscopy when they fill the uterues with fluid. I did some on-line research about this and they said it could happen if the pressure of the fluid was too high . My Gyn who did the Hysteroscopy didn't think there was any cancer in there (but he should have because of my risk factors) so I still wonder if he didn't take enough precautions. My Gyn/onc told me that she wished that he hadn't even done the Hysteroscopy. I'm not sure what else he could have done instead though.

One of the research papers I read said that if the pressure used was low, that there was much less risk of cancer cells being spread out into the pelvic region. Or if carbon dioxide was used instead of fluid to inflate the uterus. I wish that someone had told me about these things before I had my D & C so that's why I'm telling you about it now.

I also read that this happens very rarely (about 1-2% of the time) But if you happen to be one of the 1 or 2 %, that's not so great! I really hope that all goes well for you and your outcome is good!

I'm 56....I'm doing really well now, thanks for asking! I'm starting to have more energy and feel like myself again! I'm really glad you're going to ask your Dr about the D & C.
