bladder/kidney infection?

Hi Ladies,

I had BSO last Oct. 2011 and TAH in 2003. About a month ago I woke up feeling like I had a bladder infection, something I have had much experience with unfortunately. I took an otc for the pain (azo) and before I could get in to see the dr my symptoms went away (very unusual for me) Usually from the very first hint of a symptom I am completely miserable and very sick until I can get to the dr for an antibiotic. So I did not go to the dr. Even though the pain and urgency of having to go all the time went away I continued to experience a very full feeling of my bladder, even a few minutes after I go to the bathroom I would start to feel like my bladder is VERY full, and just an overall bloated feeling. Then today I woke up feeling like I have a bladder infection only instead of just the pain and urgency to go I feel horrible! Fever, chills, nausea. And of course it's Saturday! I was researching online, just to see what if anything I can do to feel better until I can get to the dr and discovered that that full bladder feeling can also be a symptom of a kidney infection. So now I'm wondering if I've had an infection for the last month or so. I do have a Z-pac (azithromycin) And am tempted to take it only I'm pretty sure from past experience it won't help a bladder or kidney infection.

I guess I've probably answered my own question but I would still appreciate any advice, info or support anyone could give me.

Re: bladder/kidney infection?

Julie,

When I had a kidney infection I had severe back pain and abdominal pain. So severe that I could barely move, actually thought it was my appendix. I ended up in the ER as I just could not move without having pain.

I would not self treat. One can read too much on the Internet. Symptoms can be from a myriad of things. Best to let the doctor decide what your problem is. Give your doctor a call if you are concerned about infection.

Re: bladder/kidney infection?

Thanks for your response Kim. I did wake up with quite a bit of back pain today and still just feeling miserable. I haven't felt very good for quite sometime, just overall achiness and extreme fatigue. I do have Fibromyalgia and CFS and a vitamin deficiency so I'm used to not feeling well but this is different. I am having ALOT of bladder symptoms and have had a problem with bladder infections for the last 10 years. It was just this full bladder feeling that threw me, haven't ever had that before (without actually having a full bladder that is). Otherwise I have all the symptoms of a bladder infection and they are quite severe.

I am going to call my dr first thing in the morning and am hoping i cna get in early. I babysit my 2 granddaughter's for my daughter during the week and am worried as to how the day will go if I'm not feeling any better than I am now.

Thank you again for your reply. It is much appreciated.

Re: bladder/kidney infection?

well, I did go to dr on monday, they took a urine sample and told me that it was positive for bacteria and that I also had a kidney infection. Dr prescribed Cipro, I'm allergic to penicillin and sulfa. He gave me enough for a 3 day treatment. I felt a little better the next couple days but now with only 1 dose left I feel like my symptoms have flared. Then the nurse called today and left a message saying that my culture had grown positive for Group B strep. She said that if I wasn't feeling better at the end of treatment to call them so they could recheck me so I guess I'll be calling them tomorrow to see what they say. I've never heard of this before or had it, that I know of anyway. I was just wondering if this Group B Strep causing a UTI is not unusual. Just curious. If anyone has any info about this I would really appreciate hearing from them.
