Have I been on the wrong road?

I had SAH in May 2007 (doc said cervix was stuck to my bowel so he left it behind rather than possibly damage the bowel).
Recovery was pretty unremarkable aside from figuring out HRT.
Have been using 1mg Divigel every other day for the last 2 years.
A year after SAH I started having muscle spasms in my back, have been through a few orthopedic and spine doctors, a couple of courses of physical therapy, several MRI's (show multi level degenerative disc disease....nowhere near the area of my pain which is in the left mid back area) and yes, even 2 CT scans of abdomen (a couple of years apart.....didn't really show anything odd) over the last 4 years without any definitive diagnosis. The pain in my back gets worse with sleeping (yes, have bought new mattress and even play Goldilocks and try the beds in my kids rooms since they're grown and moved out).

I'm to the point where I'm seeing a pain management doc and have tried intercostal and epidural nerve blocks with no success. My next appointment there is in a week.

I had an epiphany of sorts this morning as I was walking slowly (because of the pain) but knowing I needed to get to the bathroom quickly cause I could feel some urine wanting to leak if I didn't pick up the pace......could this back pain I've been fighting for the last 4 years really have something to do with my bladder possibly moving/falling?

I have an appointment with my gyn this Thursday morning to talk about this but was interested in y'alls thoughts on this.
Thanks everyone for anything you may have to offer!
Angela

Re: Have I been on the wrong road?

First, ((hugs)) I'm so sorry you have been thru so much the last few years. I had prolapsed everything leading into my hyster and lower backpain was a big problem for me. Not saying that is what you have, but it is a posibilty. Also did you suffer from endo and that is why your cervix was stuck to your bowel? If so you could possibly have some lingering endo. I hope you get some answers at your next appt!!

Re: Have I been on the wrong road?

Thanks Michelle,
I saw my gyn today and am happy to report that my bladder is"a little loose" but not really a problem. She said that my best bet right now is to stay with the pain mgt. doc to get this back pain figured out.

Re: Have I been on the wrong road?

WOW! This was like reading a short story about myself...weird. My pain began the morning I returned to work, 20 days post op. Over the years...and a gazillion Dr's later, we figured out I have degenerative joint disease in the left Sacroiliac joint along with Osteo Arthritis and Osteopenia. The strain and consequent pain has radiated into my left hip. Most Dr's felt it was easier to write an Rx for narcotics vs figure out why a 47 year old womans pelvis is imploding. 3 years, 6 months and 28 days later (yeah...last week) I was diag with "Pelvic Floor Dysfunction". From what Im understanding...muscle has memory and is attached to bone. Evidently mine is in a constant spasm and is twisting my pelvis. This portion of my journey is new, so I still need to do more research, with therapy beginning in September. I pray the therapy works as I would have a really hard time giving up my HRT since I am doing exceptionally well on it. It was briefly discussed with the DR but he concurs with the recent diag above. I wish you nothing but the best in your quest. I pray you find your answers and some much needed relief. Purps

Re: Have I been on the wrong road?

Finally getting back here.....gosh Purps, I feel your pain about docs wanting to just prescribe and not figure out where the pain is coming from. My biggest fear with this pain is its a cancer that has been missed during the several mri's and couple of ctscans that I've had. Will let you know what the next move is re: pain mgt.

Have I been on the wrong road?

Sorry that you are in such pain, sounds terrible! I am fairly new here. My pain began in May of this year. It was horrible right off of the bat. Gyno said bladder & uterine prolapse, needed to schedule hysterectomy. He also gave me vesicare to try. Didn't try it at first, don't like medicine, but pain was unbearable, so I tried it. Pain is almost completely gone. Look at symptoms of interstitial cystitis at mayo clinic website. I was shocked to see all of my symptoms, including back pain! Might not need surgery if this keeps working. This might not apply to you, but it might help. Good luck!

Re: Have I been on the wrong road?

Jody, I'm glad to hear the vesicare seems to be working well for you. Hope you don't need surgery after all.
Pain doc sent me for a chest mri and that found an area of concern on a rib....of course I'm thinking that the endo is creeping back into my life. Next step is a bone scan.
