Progesterone Cream and a Vivelle patch OK?

Hello--I am Mare--I was on this site several years ago (6) when I had my complete hysterectomy. I have been on the Vivell Dot .01 patch since.

I was changing the patch every other day and it was really working for me...although I was told that was more that usual it really was the best for me. 3 years ago our insurance changed due to my husbands retirement and now they will not cover the extra amount that I used. I was told the script exceeds what they think is needed. Hmm...anyway--since then I have spiraled. I slowly have worked my way to changing it twice a week. I have gained 10 pounds..dry skin...low libido....I was told to use Progesterone Cream. Is this safe? I know this is a Dr. question but I still would love to hear what anyone has to say.

I have used progesterone cream for close to 13 years now. It is safe, if you need it. Who told you to use progesterone cream? Was it your doctor? Do keep in mind that everyone is different, some women need progesterone after a hysterectomy, some women do not. If your estrogen isn't balanced, adding progesterone can make things worse. It is a delicate balance

Re: Progesterone Cream and a Vivelle patch OK?

Strangely enough my chiropractor suggested it. What he said made a ton of sense to me--without me giving him details he said it seemed my symptoms presented a hormone issue based on sluggish adrenal glands...due to hormones. Long before my hyst. my Gyno prescribed progesterone cream. Are results instant when you use the cream or do you have to build it up in your system? I also suffer from Fibromyalgia.

I do not think results would be instant. It can take some time to build up in your system. I don't think there are "instant" results with most meds. It takes time and patience.

Re: Progesterone Cream and a Vivelle patch OK?

Love the info. This was my question too. I was looking to use progesterone cream because of lack of sleep, tonigh is the first night to use the cream, I am starting out with 1/8 instead of 1/4 to see if it will work and then work up to the 1/4 that is recommend. I am using the vivelle dot, .075
I have been using a sleep aid since surgery. I am hoping this will even out soon. Thanks for the info.
