Re: vivelle dot and hair loss

I noticed that I did lose my hair after surgery. I also had thinning eye brows for awhile. I do use V-dot, but never started until about 3 months after surgery. I noticed that my hair has now been coming back in and getting thicker and I am still using v-dot. I felt like my hair loss was due to other things like all the CT scans, and anesthesia. I had 3 surgeries within 6 weeks and I felt like that was what contributed to the hair loss and not the V-dot.

vivelle dot and hair loss

Hi sistershell thank you for your reply. I have been on vivelle for a couple of years now. I am having about 50 strands of hair come out every morning. I use to have so much more. I'm guessing its the patches. Is 50 strands of hair coming out a day normal? My Dr. Said I could try 2 mg estrace and see if it stops the hair loss.

Re: vivelle dot and hair loss

Have you had your thyroid checked? Hair loss can sometimes be a sign of a thyroid imbalance. If this is a new symptom probably worth having it checked.

Hello i'm going to cosmetology school & I have learned it is normal for a person to lose Upto 100 strands per day... Depending on how thick their hair is I am due to have my hysterectomy on 8/10 so I haven't started any hormone pills or anything yet.... But every day when I take a shower and brush my hair I lose a lot of hair... I always have... My hair right now is real thick... so I hope when I have to start my meds after surgery it won't thin out =/ Idk what I would do.... Hope this helps

Re: vivelle dot and hair loss

I also noticed after surgery I started losing hair more than normal. I blame that more on the shock that surgery does on the body. I haven't started my hormone patch yet.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with hormones (both ovaries removed) but the hair on my legs take a very long time to grow in. This is something I noticed within a few days after surgery. Before surgery I would shave my legs every day.. after surgery I could easily go 4 days or longer.

Re: vivelle dot and hair loss

It so funny that you mention the hair growth. I had some really strange things happen since my hysterectomy and one of them is that the hair under my arms has pretty much stopped growing. I've also had a problem with thinning head hair. I'd always had very thick hair, but I also take some medicines that have been associated with hair thinning/loss- an anti-depressant and antihistamines. So not sure what the culprit. But it worsened after my last ovary was removed. Recently my head hair loss has improved some. Seems related to the estrogen in my system. The other weird thing that happened is I got a ball of fat around my underarms. I really panicked when this happened thinking it was a lymph node issue, but it ended up being fat. I've lost about 35lbs since my hysterectomy, and the wad of fat is going down some. I'm hoping between the weight loss and hormone replacement that eventually it will go away.
