Burning sensation in the vagina

Hello everyone,

I hope somebody out there might have an idea as to what is wrong with me. I first started experiencing the symptoms 7 years ago - a burning sensation in the vagina (very similar to Thrush), compounded by the urge to empty my bladder very frequently. A number of doctors examined me. Large erosion was found and treated via the colposcopy procedure. ( My bladder was also eaxmined. Nothing!) No cancerous cells were detected, but I was told that there was an inflammation process taking place in the vagina. Where it was coming from was a mystery. Every time I have a sexual intercourse the symptoms get worse. The anterior wall of the vagina feels really hard and bulges down into the vagina. 5 days ago I had an ultrasound which identified ovarian cysts. The doctor said that the cysts cannot cause the symptoms. I have been tested for all kinds of infections and diseases and all tests come back fine.

Does anybody know if any of the symptoms are related?

Thank you so much, Tals

Re: Burning sensation in the vagina

Hi Tals,

Has anyone ever suggested you try vaginal estrogen cream like estrace or vagifem? You sound like you have dryness in your vaginal tissues which can cause the symptoms you describe.

Have you been to a uro gynecologist?

Re: Burning sensation in the vagina

Have you researched pelvic floor dysfuntion? Sometime the muscles can go into spasms and cause this burning sensation...did they check you for Interstitial Cystitis as this can cause this as well! Hope you get the Dr.'s to help you and not just dismiss you, since they can't find a "cause"!

Re: Burning sensation in the vagina

I have gone from doctor to doctor complaining of burning in my pelvic area. I always feel like I have a urinary infection but the tests are negative. They all dismissed my symptoms. The most I ever got was a prescription for Estrace which has not relieved my pain. I had Pudendal nerve entrapment after my hysterectomy in 2002 and it took me 4 years (and this site!) to find out what it was. I got it treated in Houston but now it is back with a vengence. I am seeing a uro-gynecologist and having tests soon for IC and injections for PNE. By the way, pain with sitting is the common complaint.

Re: Burning sensation in the vagina

hope this dr. can help you! I have been in your shoes, but don't ever give up seeking help...you will find a dr. who will help you! If it is IC one thing that helps is to avoid chocolate, caffiene, coffee, citrus, tomato products...basically anything acidic! there is also a pill called pyridium (I think that is the name) coats the bladder and gives wonderful relief in about 30min to an hour. It will stain your panties...so wear old ones you don't mind ruining...I have this pill, but barely need it anymore...I was diagnosed with IC over 20 years ago and am now actually able to enjoy small amounts of acidic foods without pain...but it has taken a long time to get it calmed that much! Good luck!

Smile - Burning sensation in the vagina Re: Burning sensation in the vagina

Dear ladies,

Thanks a million to every single one of you who has taken the time to reply! I am currently researching your suggestions and will talk to my family doctor ( she also happens to be a gynecologist) on 15 August.

Thanks again,
Tals
