first period after a myomectomy is very heavy

I just got my first period after my myomectomy and it's extremely heavy ...... heavier than it's ever been before I had a myomectomy has anyone had this problem. I thought having a myomectomy would make my periods lighter .... isn't that the point of doing this whole thing??? Please anyone out there have this same problem let me know if this is normal.

first period after a myomectomy is very heavy

Hey!!! My old friend! How are you?!!! I hope well!! Can you believe today i googled, "heavy bleeding after abdominal myomectomy" and up came your post! I did get my period on July 30, 5 weeks after my surgery, but just got it again Fri... and all weekend I have been hemorraging!!!! I am worried :-(. I have felt pretty great all along, considering how big my fibroids were, and the 1st period was normal, not heavy, and I was so relieved everything was working. But now, 8 weeks tomorrow, and I am bleeding like I was prior to the surgery!!! :-((((. I did start power walking this weekend...I hope I didn't hurt anything!! I am upset:-(.

Wow that's awful! Did you call your doctor. That doesn't sound right I would think 8 weeks after surgery your periods should be getting lighter. I hope that doesn't happen to me. My first one was awful and I haven't had a second one yet. Let me know if you get any news from your doctor but I would definitely call them.
Good luck!

Re: first period after a myomectomy is very heavy

My first period after my myomectomy was heavy and very very painful. My second one was much lighter and not painful at all. Hopefully it continues that way, since I've only had 2 since the surgery.

Kokof, that's terrible! Maybe you should call your doctor to see what they think. I'm sorry that's been happening

Thanks for your reply! All is well, thankfully and the heavy bleeding only lasted 2.5 days. It was scary though; I thought I may have been hemorraging. Ugh! Other than that, all is good! How was your post-op?

first period after a myomectomy is very heavy

Hi Irma! 8 weeks for both of us! How are you feeling?! Thankfully for me the severe bleeding stopped, but it was 2.5 days of worry. I am not sure what that was about. I see my regular gyno next month, so I'll discuss it with her. My incision is still pretty sore, but I have had a really great recovery. Hope the same for you! I will never forget how petrified I was...truly! And now it's 2 months ago! Amazing- I am so grateful it all worked out! So nice to hear from you!!

Is this your first period after your myomectomy? If so, mine was very painful too. Like really, really painful. I was actually pacing around my house it hurt so bad. But the next period was much lighter/better. And now I don't have any problems.

Thank you for your reply !! Yep, it's my first period .. The period itself is surprisingly light, but the cramps .. Oh my !!! The naproxen helped immensely, so ladies make sure you have some on hand !! Now if i could just get rid of this hard painful lump on my right side, I'd be able to stand up straight ! This recovery was alot more difficult than I expected
