Re: 2 more days!!!!
Hi Melissa, I had an abdominal hysterectomy back in August 9, 2010. I also had to have a blood transfusion prior to my surgery because of a month or so long of bleeding, I even hemoraged during that time. I know how you are feeling you are probably worrying alot. Stay strong and stay positive. My surgery went well took close to 2 hours. When I first woke up in recovery i was not in any pain, they had the pain med pump hooked up to me, amongst other things like iv, and of course oxygen (thats just to help you wake up) I had a slight episode in the am where when I got out of bed I fainted (never did that before) but the meds I guess were the culprit combined with the anemia my blood pressure was real low that was all. But my doctor insisted I have an iron transfusion, and later that night he decided another blood transfusion. I was not allowed to get out of bed until the 2nd day and then I could slowly manuever around. I will say this it is scarey to face but once you are facing your recovery you will be fine. I would do it again if I had to. Personally that bleeding episode I had and the fear of hemoraging again, I could not wait to have it done with. Advice in recovery at home -Just take your time, get some rest and make sure you work up to your walking around, will help you immensely. Let others help you with meals and household chores, etc. But the doc will give you those orders when you are released to go home. I was home in 4 days, could have been three but doctor asked me if I wanted to go home on the 3rd day and I said no I felt I wanted to stay another night, because the first day had set me back a bit. All in all I can say this is the best thing I ever did for my body. I never realized how bad I felt, how tired I was from heavy periods all those years. I feel like a different woman. I have severl women that I know that feel that same way after their operations, they feel so much better. You will be fine. Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.
