I'm two days post op from LAVH. Feeling much better today. Was finally able to pass gas yesterday, Lord what sweet relief bc I felt like I might just blow up if I couldn't get that gas out. Pain is much more manageable and had a pretty good night. Not much on eating anything yet but it will come. Wishing everyone a fast and comfortable recovery!!

That's the truth! The morning after my surgery the nurse bought me "breakfast". I personally wouldn't have called it that. It was a big rubbery blob of yellow and orange that I was told was a cheese omlet. I refused to touch and the nurse said if I didn't eat something I couldn't go home so she bought me a slice of melon and a corn muffin. Much better!

Hi ladies! I just a friendly reminder. Remember to get up and walk around for a few minutes several times a day as a precaution to avoid blood clots.

Also, this link has some wonderful videos as to what you can expect during certain weeks of you your recovery.

And the tabs across the top has answers to questions you may have along with some great articles.

Everyone sounds like they are doing wonderful so far. The first week is the worst but it definitely gets better from her.

Asolutely1!!!!Isn't this the truth! I've had blood clots in the past and while we will no longer have to deal with auntie flow and the heprin/coumadine and warfin treatments for blood clots, you still do not want the life changing diagnosis/treatment for it! Any symptoms of it (leg cramps) contact Dr's ASAP!!!!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 06-Aug 12,2012

Howdy...this is my first post! I've been lurking for a while, doing all my mental prep work and now the deed is done. I've found reading all of your posts to be very comforting and helpful and I'm SO glad I found this site to support me through this! I guess it's time to chime in with my story...and a few questions.

I had a daVinci robotic assisted hysterectomy on August 7 for pelvic pain, blood loss and suspected adenomyosis. When they went in, they found I had scar tissue and adhesions from endometriosis as well. My left ovary and tube were stuck to the wall and had to be resected.

They ended up taking my uterus and cervix, but left the ovaries and tubes. I was losing a lot of blood removing the scar tissue and since the ovaries and tubes looked in good condition, the surgeon didn't want to chance any more blood loss.

I got my catheter removed Wednesday morning and came home that afternoon. I've been doing pretty well, but still feel weak, and have some referred gas pain up in my right shoulder, which is subsiding.

My primary pain is a burning, stinging hot spot on the inside to the left of my belly button. The surgeon says it might be some nerve pain, or a pinch from the stitch they had to do on my center port incision. It feels like it's tearing when I move the wrong way. Does anyone else feel this? Will it go away soon (please...please!)?

Another question is about marks on my tummy. I have four incisions from the robot, but I also have two symmetrical pin prick marks on either side of my belly button that I noticed in the shower yesterday. Has anyone else had this?

Hugs to everyone recovering...treat yourself like a princess and feel better soon!

Tamara,
When your body is in pain, it means that something has been stressed and overdone. Right now we are recovering from surgery so we don't want to overdo anything.

If you have stitches on the inside, if you are overdoing something they could possibly tear, so take it easy.
While walking is ok, don't pick up anything. If you go to the store, ride in the cart and have someone carry the groceries.

Listen to your body, if your going to walk, before you do it, take your lowest pain control medication that you have before you do it (such as going to the store), use the remote riders in the store and have someone load and unload your car.

Be very careful and listen to your body, if you need to, take it down a notch and go slower with less motion.

While this may not have answered your question exactly, I'm sure that someone else might have some better advise to answer your questions.

Karrie

I am two days post op TAH. I feel great. I got to come home last night. The most pain I have had so far has been from gas but, after miralax and colace last night I feel so much better. My surgery took only 2 hours(which is great since we were worried about the scar tissue). I am hoping the rest of my recovery goes well.

My surgeon told me before my surgery that they inject something ( pain meds I believe ), into the muscles of your abdomen just before surgery, so that explains your prick marks, I have them too!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 06-Aug 12,2012

I had my TVH yesterday morning and came home today around noon. My mother stayed with me in the hospital, and it was a good thing because the nurses were really understaffed.

Doc said the surgery was textbook, so I'm hoping the healing will go the same. I'm taking the next 2 weeks off work for sure, and may try to work from home half days the following week, depending on how I feel. I'm looking forward to taking it easy for awhile.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 06-Aug 12,2012

I had my LAVH (total) with a bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy on wednesday 8-08-12 . I am 40yo. I was released from the hospital on thursday 8-09-12 in the early evening. Surgery went really well. However I do suggest that if you have a history of suffering from nausea... in any situation that you tell the dr. and the anesthesiologist before your operation. I did,and I am glad I did. The anesthesiologist gave me a patch behind my ear that helped with nausea... it really did work well. I am home, resting, and taking my pain pills as instructed. Belly is really swollen and really tender...and I definitely know when its time for another pain pill. I am taking Colace (a stool softener) to help avoid constipation, because the narcotics/ pain pills tend to cause constipation. Which is not something you'll want to have after having surgery. I am also taking an estrogen pill (1mg) to help with handling my body being thrown into menopause and all the symptoms that go with it. I also suggest having someone with you at all times for at the very least, the first few days after surgery. It is definitely necessary to have someone there to help you get up and down from sitting to standing and/or lying down and standing. It is painful, but less painful if you have assistance. It is also a good idea in case you get lightheaded. Which has happened to me a few times. I'm hoping to be back to normal by the time 6 weeks is up because that is when I'm going back to work. Good luck to all that haven't had surgery yet, I'm sending positive energy to everyone Good luck and wishes for a speedy recovery for all
