2 years after total hysterectomy

I am a little over 1 year past my total abdominal/vaginal hysterectomy. Mine too was a piece of cake!! Blessed! I was back at work in 1 week. My hot flashes subsided for awhile, but are in full force the past few months. Mood swings are horrible (only with my family) and sex has always been an issue, but now.... 0, none, GONE, DEAD!!! I can't take estrogen due to breast cancer in my immediate family. PLEASE HELP!!

Re: 2 years after total hysterectomy

Black cohosh may help hot flashes if they are not too severe . I would give it a couple of months to see if it works. The supplement 5HTP has helped my sadness and moods and sleep. My doctor recommended 5HTP and black cohosh when I got off my estrogen patch.

Here is a link on hot flashes:http://www.webmd.com/menopause/guide/hot-flashes

Please be sure to ask your doctor if it is okay to take these.

Re: 2 years after total hysterectomy

I don't have any solution, but I just celebrated my two-year hysterechtomy seven days ago. My hot flashes have been terrible since the beginning of Spring 2012. I don't know if it has been just terribly hot and humid that causes me to have them so bad at night. But I had a couple of cold (down in the 50's) that last couple of nights. I only woke up 4 times instead of every 40 minutes or so. I'm praying for a cold winter.

I do know I need to watch what I eat. I've been pretty bad lately, with the sweets and the caffiene. I know I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to those. They will induce the night sweats. Good luck!

Re: 2 years after total hysterectomy

I haven't had my hysterectomy yet but I have several friends who did and they swear by the progesterone cream. They told me it made them feel like New and brought back the sex drive. I hope this helps.

Re: 2 years after total hysterectomy

Hmmm...I've had almost no caffeine for two months, and the warm flushes have been pretty minor. Actually, the main time I've noticed them have been in the evening after dinner, especially if we've had spicy food.
