Uterus thickened, post ablation, now what?

I had a uterine ablation back in 2005 to help with heavy bleeding and clots. I was very happy with the outcome--no more periods.

Then in March 2011, I got a period. But nothing since. Gyno has done 3 or 4 endometrial biopsies (OUCH) and 2 D & C's. In all of the procedures, he has been unable to get any usable or conclusive tissue samples!! 3 to 4 months ago I started having pelvic pain. 2 Months ago during a vag ultrasound it was discovered that the endometrial lining of my uterus was "thickened". (This prompted the 2nd D & C)

Saw Gyno today for D&C post op visit and we discussed a hysterectomy. He said my uterus had scar tissue due to the ablation and that COULD be causing my pain. He wants to remove everything--uterus, cervix, and ovaries since the paid could be from any of them. I am 49 and done having children, but I don't know what to do.

Can anyone offer me some advice? I am scared since they cannot rule out cancer since the tissue removed from the last D&C was deemed "inconclusive".

Thank you for listening...feels good to write it all down!

Re: Uterus thickened, post ablation, now what?

Jersey, I too had ablation and I didn't make it a year and started to bleed, had a lap done and dr removed some scar tissue but said I had a lot more and uterus was thickened as well. I also had adenomyosis. I was bleeding heavy and passing large clots and had pain worse than labor and that radiated down my thighs into my hips. I lived like that for two years. I m 10 wks post op I feel fabulous. I had to keep my cervix due to the scar tissue on it adhering to my bladder. I also kept my ovaries since they were fine never had problems with them. I hope this info helps u out. It is a long journey from start to finish but it is sooooo worth it.

Re: Uterus thickened, post ablation, now what?

An update...I met with my new Doctor and LOVED him, he let me know I wasn't crazy and advised me to go ahead with a hysterectomy because as he points out, the conservative approach had not worked well for me...I am now scheduled tentatively for oct 11for total hyst via davinci, I am relieved beyond belief....he could not rule out cancer but felt very comfortable saying pathology post hyst would tell the tale....he did not anticipate any issues with my insurance co, and that was another big concern for me. I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel now and to have a Doctor listen to me and take me seriously made me cry as soon as I was in the privacy of my car...please let me know how you are doing...I hope you can get some answers that will provide you a real sense of relief and direction!!

I can imagine how relieved you must feel! Good for you! I decided to schedule my hysterectomy also. I am scheduled for Oct 8, so I guess we will be recuping at the same time! I figured I should go ahead and schedule it, as it is still several weeks away, and I can always decide not to do it.

I decided to go ahead and schedule the hysterectomy. It's not until Oct 8, so I still have a lot of time to think things over, or cancel if needed. I think it is going to be the only way to rule out cancer, and I am really tired of being in pain every day.

Re: Uterus thickened, post ablation, now what?

Your story sounds like I wrote it!! That was very strange to read your story since I had the same issues. I had a D&C with ablasion back in 2009 because I almost bled to death. I was losing blood so fast the doc had to do something quickWell the ablasion worked! No more period till 2012 when I was having pain in my belly. I had an ultrasound and a ct scan both with dye and they found my uterus had thickened. I also had endometriosis and adenomyosis and fibroid tumors the size of softballs. Well that was February and in March I had my hysterectomy!! The only part I regret is the ovaries... It took me a while to get my levels right in my estrogen but so far so good with the dose I'm on now. I think I made the right decision Good luck to you!!

Re: Uterus thickened, post ablation, now what?

Doc was originally talking about laproscopic, but today when I spoke with the surgical scheduler, she told me that he was going to discuss the davinci with me. I just watched the videos on this site about it and I think I will go with the davinci.
