New here and seeking advice!!

I am almost 40 and have been dealing with heavy periods and horrible cramps for many years now. I cannot use BCP due to serious side effects. I am prone to infections so Mirena is out - not to mention my sister nearly died after having one. I have tried the Nuva ring as well which did not work out. I am very prone to vaginal infections - I cannot even use tampons very much anymore. Also lately for about the last 2 months - I am getting a heavy period every 2 weeks on the dot! It really sucks!
Anyway - last yr at my yearly check m MD recommended I consider a tubal and the Novasure procedure. I gave heard good and bad about Novasure. Such as no more periods for most but also that you still get PMS symptoms. Which in my case if this means cramps- I will not get much relief. A previous doc was ready to do a hysterectomy on me and sometimes I wonder if just doing this one procedure instead of 2 and then later possibly a hyster if they don't work. Need some advice! I see my MD next week so I want to be ready to discuss this w/her. Thanks!

Re: New here and seeking advice!!

Sorry to hear your having such awful problems. My suggestion would be to research the Novasure some more. If you think this option may work for you I'd try it first. If after researching it you don't feel it's right for you then I'd start discussing hysterectomy with your doctor. It seems you've already explored so many other options. If you search down the threads in this forum you may find stories about novasure success or lack of success.A hysterectomy is major surgery so you don't want to jump right in until you've tried or researched and rejected all options. Good luck to you!

Re: New here and seeking advice!!

My dr gave me the choice of the ablation surgery, Mirena or a hysterectomy. I thought about the options and decided on the hysterectomy. I had the DaVinci and would recommend it to anyone. My reasons for not trying the other options were that I have lupus and didn't want to do the hormones with Mirena, and my dr couldn't promise that the ablation would completely stop my periods. I had gotten anemic from them. I am 4 weeks post-op and feel great. Best of luck to you with whatever you choose!

Re: New here and seeking advice!!

Novasure cures the bleeding in most cases, but it doesn't solve the cramping at all and in many cases makes the cramping worse.

With heavy periods and cramping, I'd research Adenomyosis and explore that as a possible explanation for your symptoms. Then research ablation with Adenomyosis. That's what I did and found many women who have Adenomyosis and get Novasure end up worse off than they were before and wind up with a hysterectomy. I decided hysterectomy was the best choice for my and my pathology came back that I had Adenomyosis really bad plus my uterus was very vascular. So, Novasure would have just made things worse for me.

Re: New here and seeking advice!!

Abagayle- that is exactly what I am afraid of! That I will do a tubal and Novasure and it will do nothing for me! Thanks- I am going to continue researching the Novasure but am seriously going to be open to the hyster option as well.
