Advantages of Menopause
I went through surgical menopause nearly 4 weeks ago. Even at 55, I was still producing the follicle-stimulating hormone and was still having regular periods and everything else until about 6 weeks before my surgery.
So, for the first time in over 25 years, I haven't had sore breasts and annoying monthly cysts in my breasts (that sent me to my gynecologist in a lot of fear the first time that happened).
I had over 15 years of periods that, at times, were more painful than most of the days following a hysterectomy. Sometimes, I'd sit in my recliner with a heating pad after taking mega-doses of Aleve and still be in pain.
For the last few years, I had at least one 5 minute crying jag around my period.
I've always been on the emotional side and somewhat bad tempered. I remember getting a good laugh from reading "The Wisdom of Menopause," where the writer said "Menopause helps put you in touch with your anger." This was nutty to me because I've been in touch with my anger at least since the age of 5. I don't know if finally getting through menopause will make me more even tempered, but I'm a little more aware of it.
