LAVH: why is my dr sending me to so many other dr. first

hello everyone, I wanted to see if anyone could help me with this puzzling question, (well at least it is puzzling to me) ,I had to go to Er for severe pelvic pain, ultra sound showed left and right ovarian cysts,and fibroid tumors,( i had to find a new gyno because mine retired, ) she sent me to surgeon for second opinion, he said hysterectomy asap, my family dr. said hysterectomy asap, have had 9 appts, so far,just got surgery scheduled, now she wants me to go to GI dr, before,? I just want the hysterectomy, have 2 and 3rd opinions, been in horrible pain for 5 weeks, have had tubes tied, ablation and i am through menopause,are all dr, this way or just mine? I am so frustrated right now, please can someone give me some advice?

I'm not postitive here, but if they are going to do a hysterectomy, maybe they want to make sure that you don't have others repairs that need to be fixed. It could be that they are trying to spare you another surgery later if they can find it all now. Not all Dr's are thorough and it sounds to me that yours are trying to be thorough. That is a great thing to have on your side. I'm so sorry you have been suffering this way, hopefully the GI will be the last Dr you need to see before you get some relief. (((HUGS)))

I have a feeling you have a very good doctor who is trying to make sure that there isn't something else that could be contributing to this. A lot of these problems go hand in hand and do need to be dealt with. Better to get checked out only to discover there is something else that could cause other problems also. Sorry to hear you have been in so much pain. Hopefully, you will see that doc and then have your surgery.

thank-you so much girls, i really needed to hear that, i was just afraid she was going to talk me out of the surgery, i know it dosent sound right to want surgery, but i just want the pain to stop!

Very understandable. I know how hard it is when you are in pain and nothing really helps. It is better to be checked out before the surgery so that you may avoid problems down the road

So glad i read ur post. I have the same thing goin on. In fact my hyst is the same day as yours. I have been dealin with this since Jan and finally got my obgyn to realize I need surgery, but he wouldn't do it without me seeing a fam doc and a GI doc first. I was so frustrated that I had to wait, obviously he doesn't know how miserable this is. But I saw the fam doc and I see the GI doc tomorrow and surgery is only 9 days away, i can't wait. I guess I'm glad he's being thorough, but it sure was hard to wait. Good luck to you, hope all goes well.

thank-you so much for that reply, i have had my fourth opinion today, it was also my 12th appt, for this, i am beyond frustrated also, i just dont see why we have to go thru so much just to get fixed, ive had my tubes tied, and ablation, and i guess im thru menopause so whats problem? arghhh!!! i guess im ready to go for surgery on tuesday yeah!!!! good luck to you too and hope every thing comes out well for you too!!!!

I can imagine you are frustrated, but how frustrated would you be if you had a hysterectomy and you still had issues? Unfortunately, a hysterectomy is not the solution for a wide variety of issues and there really are times women come out of OR with the very same symptoms as the problem either wasn't their reproductive organs or there were issues besides issues with the reproductive organs.

I know this can all be aggravating, especially when you are in pain. But in there and know that your doctors are trying to make sure that all the bases are covered so you can receive the best treatment possible for you.

Beyond frustrated doesn't even begin to describe where i'm at right now. Saw the GI doc on Mon and he wanted a colonoscopy done. I have no change in BMs frequency, consistency, or anything. I can eat whatever and it doesn't affect my symptoms, but whatever. So Tues i had my pre-op labs, and today the colonoscopy. Everything looked fine there, so then he says we have to do an upper gi x-ray. What for? The only thing that flares my symptoms is the time of the month, sex, and seeing my gyno. Seems pretty straight foreward to me. But whatever, guess i gotta go along with it. So tomorrow i have my pre-op appt with my gyno and Fri i have that x-ray. I'm all for thoroughness, but Really? Thankfully i have good insurance, and a good employer that understands. But not everyone has that. Sorry to sound crabby, but had to vent. So can't wait for Tuesday! Btw i had a tubal and ablation too, wonder if that's the problem.

you know i was kind of leary joining this website, but wow am i glad i did,im sorry to say that it makes me feel better to see there are other women out there that are going through the same things i am, but i was feeling so alone, i live in a small town and i dont know anyone who has had a hysterectomy,so i have no one to talk to, thank- you so much everyone!! Surgery at 8 a.m. tueseday, now im getting nervous!!!
