more estrogen after recovery of surgery

Hi, I had knee surgery 2 weeks ago i started feeling kind of
anixouse off and on, then 2 days ago i came down with the stomach flu, now i have anxiety more, i tried increasing the E and thought i felt better... but it is coming and going..
my question is this if your body is under stress do you need more E ? the np said my E was too high, by blood work, i cut it down and feel awful, so i raised it again this was 3 weeks ago, she also said my adneral glands was low, and told me to take DHEA, and the side effects was feeling hyper and anxiouse, so take something for the side effects....
I have appt. to see an dr for thyroid and adneral, in sept but she doesnt do menopause, so i have a new DR. for hormones, but what do i do in the meantime...
i hate this anoxiouse feeling, maybe when the flu and surgery recovery is gone i will be ok...
any advise would be great, thanks......

Re: more estrogen after recovery of surgery

Yep, the stress from surgery and illness can cause the hormones to go haywire.

Re: more estrogen after recovery of surgery

Yes, Kim's right.. it can throw everything off for a while.

If you get your adrenal issue fixed, it will be easier to balance the sex hormones... very difficult if adrenal is low.... Have heard DHEA will lower cortisol levels so not that effective for women... Hope your dr can help you out...

Just curious... what did your dr say was too high level of E?

Re: more estrogen after recovery of surgery

hi, I went to dr. with the only complaint of Divigel a transdermal E, did not
feel the same every day, some days I felt low, and she did some blood work, it came back at 568, and my thyroid was too high also, I am on armor, so she said cut dose of E in half, so after 3 days, my joints hurt real bad very tired, sad, could not think right, for me i thought this is low E, she said stop armor for 2 days, she did another blood test after 3 weeks E was 138, and thyroid was ok now...
she said E still too high, start taking Progesterone, I didnt start progesterone
I went to family dr and ask him about the test, he said you can not use blood work for E levels, E changes all day long, but to see a specialist for cortisol, and by the blood work numbers, dont stop the armor , take it everyday.. so i raised my E and felt better, and still taking armor everyday, it helps the E work better I feel.. I see a specialist for cortisol and thyroid in sept... and new dr. for E in sept.. this surgery and flu has really floored me, i have lost 13 pounds too, the NP , said at 100 lbs,i didnt need all that E, my dose is 1 mg. it is a gel, what i have read about gels is not all of it gets absorbed, i dont know for sure......
any advise would be great, thanks..........

Re: more estrogen after recovery of surgery

My DH has been on testosterone for several years. His new Dr. told him to cut his dose in half when he came up fairly high. He had, of course, put his Fortesta on about an hour and a half before his appt. He ended up only dropping his dose by 1/4 after feeling absolutely awful. He was told he could go back up by 1/4 dose. This time when she rechecked his dose, I'd told him to skip his morning application before the blood draw. His level had dropped by 2/3.

You will most certainly get a surge after the once daily application. Your level may go that high then slowly drop through the day. I'm not saying you should "disobey" your Dr., I'm saying maybe you need to retest and don't apply the divigel that morning or at least apply early and don't go in til late in the day. I'll bet your results are much different.

I have a question, what about taking armor before blood test? I take mine at 3 am, i have to take other meds and i dont want to mix them....
do i fast before thyroid test too? i just remebered, i didnt use the divigel before last blood test, it was 138, she said it was still too high, but i felt low...

Re: more estrogen after recovery of surgery

I believe you have to wait 12 hours after last Armour dose before thyroid tests or your T3 will test high.

I don't think 138 is high but some drs think 100 is high....

Re: more estrogen after recovery of surgery

Hi, I feel better when my numbers for E is higher, i had a little breast tenderness but that was all.. i had blood test 5 hours after thyroid so maybe thats why my numbers was high, i wish the np would tell me about fasting and waiting hours for blood work.... hopefully this new dr. will run more blood work, and i will wait and fast. you have to fast for cortisol right?? thanks.......
