Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 13-Aug 19,2012
I had my LSH on 8/14/12 at 7:30 am. There was a huge clock staring me in the face in the OR, so I know exactly how long I was under - from 7:50 until 11 am. The most uncomfortable moment was when they put an oxygen mask on me, that made me very nervous. Being strapped down to he OR table, with the mask covering my nose and mouth, something about that mask freaked me out. So, they took off the nose/mouth off the hose piece and gave me just the end of the hose to breathe in - that was a great idea, that made me more comfortable.
Woke up in mild but growing pain and was given one percocet pill. I asked for ice to be put on the area and that made me feel better. I stayed in the recovery room until I peed on my own. I actually find peeing after the surgery easier than before, I guess that depends on where my fibroids where. When I changed into my civil clothes, I put on the "Perfect Pocket Abdominal Binder" - and I have not parted with it since, love it, it keeps me together and allows for different sleeping positions.
Came home at about 3, took 600 mg of ibuprofen. Walked around , peed what felt like buckets, slept on and off.
I took another percocet before going to bed, only upon request of a family member: "you do not want to wake up in pain in the middle of the night". I did not feel I needed it. The pain comes from three little incisions and when my insides move around when I turn, sit down or get up, but it is no the pain someone would need meds for. Well, will see how I feel this evening. And the binder helps very much, even if it is just psychologically so that I feel that my insides are together with each other and with me.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 13-Aug 19,2012
I got to the hospital yesterday morning at 8:30, was wheeled in the OR at 10:45am. After surgery I was in phase 1 recovery for a couple of hours, then moved to private room and was discharged at 8:30pm after I was able to pee on my own and eat some food. Slept better than I thought I would last night, probably due to lack of sleep the previous two nights. I feel like I have been stabbed in the guts! Keeping my mind on the end results and staying positive! The hospital staff was awesome and encouraging! I was at a Women and Babies hospital. So much attention was paid to me! Today will do some walking around the house and watching movies on my iPad.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 13-Aug 19,2012
I arrived at hospital at 11:20 for a 12:30 surgery. I told the nurses that I needed to speak with the surgeon ahead of time because I changed my mind about removing my ovaries. I spoke with surgeon around 1pm and told him to leave my ovaries unless they were bad and needed to be removed.
Surgery started around 1:30and lasted almost 7 hours. My surgery was laprosopic. When the doctors got in there they said that I had severe endometriosis that wasn't detected previously because my huge fibroid blocked ovaries. Endometriosis was attached to everything including my rectum. They ended up taking both ovaries and tubes.
I don't remember waking up until almost 11pm that night in my room. I remember being in pain and out of it until around 8am. They took catheter out around 8am. I peed at 9am then went for a walk.
Discharged at 3pm Tuesday and resting at home. I have been passing gas a lot, not in any major pain. So far so good.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 13-Aug 19,2012
Hi everyone! I had my surgery yesterday at 1pm ~ DaVinci robotic, 4 small incisions. I stayed one night in the hospital, which was optional; very glad I made that decision, I got some good rest with the pain pump provided. I still have some trapped gas, but it feels like it's dissipating. I don't have any pain around the incision sites, but I have some strong cramping where my uterus used to be. I am taking Percocet, hopefully just for a couple of days. I have been walking short walks but even went around the block this afternoon. The walks feel like they are helping the gas to move I am very fortunate to be in very good health aside from the endo, so that helps make recovery easier... my best advice is to get your body as healthy as possible before the surgery ~ it helps!
My doc was able to leave the left ovary, but he first had to detach it from my bowels as the endo created adhesions. Doing lots of napping ~ off to bed again now... wishing everyone a fast & easy recovery!

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 13-Aug 19,2012
I had my surgery on Tuesday at 6pm. I had a hysterectomy in Dec. done with the DaVinci and they took my tubes and uterus. In June I went in to have a cyst removed on my ovary and when the doc went in he found stage 4 endo and was unable to do anything that day. So, on Tuesday I had a urologist to put stints in, general surgeon to remove the endo and adhensions from my bowels and my OB to remove my ovaries and all other endo.
Everything went well during surgery. The doc said it was a "mess" in there but they were able to get everything they needed to and not hurt my bowels or bladder. I was in recovery for 1 1/2 hours because we could not get the pain in control.
I was finally moved to a single room and able to see my husband. I slept for a while and wasn't in too much pain. Then that all came to an end. I started having bladder spams and was in so much pain I was crying. This lasted about 4 hours. They were trying everything they could but nothing was working. I finally fell asleep and woke up to seeing my doctor. He prescribed a different pain med for my bladder and told me I was to stay on a clear liquid diet all day (I have been on a clear liquid diet now for 3 days due to the change in my surgery date). My urine has consisted of a lot of blood but is slowly turning a normal color.
Right now, I am hungry, in pain, want this cath out, and ready to go home.
I was told that tomorrow I will get my HRT and the cath out as well!!!
The best news I have is that I quit smoking 2 days before my surgery and I am not having any problems!
I wish everyone a speedy recovery and look forward to chatting as the weeks go by.

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 13-Aug 19,2012
Had my TLH/BSO Tuesday @7:30 am. Besides the pain I was in, I was also nauseated and despite them giving me meds to prevent it I got sick. I am having severe pain on my right side now. I was released from the hospital this morning at 9 am. And I have been resting all day. Not sure if it is bladder spasms or if it is my gull bladder or appendix. Other than that I feel good, and think this is the best choice for me since my ovaries and tubes were so destroyed by scar tissue and cysts. My uterus was also abnormally enlarged and I had already had a leap procedure done on my cervix in 2003. Has anyone else experienced pain on their right side just below their ribs? I am starting to get worried...

Re: Recovery Progress Reports for Hysterectomy dates Aug 13-Aug 19,2012
I came home last night from the hospital and I'm doing very well. Just taking care of me. I took a shower and placed my patch on. Slept a little. I have 3 small incisions and the have clear tape on them. The one on my belly button is really oozing blood and I asked the dr. Yesterday if I should take them off he said let the shower run over it. But it looks so gross, do you think I should leave it or take it off?
