3 weeks post op A+P repair/nerve pain?

Hi everyone,
I am just over 3 weeks post op-I previously posted at 2 weeks with BM pressure/frequency and I'm happy to say that I feel this sensation is improving slowly now. However, I have a new concern! The overall pressure and post op pain/inflammation is diminishing but I'm left with this L side internal (rectal area) burning pain that I cannot relieve with advil nor tyl #3's. The pain radiates down to my L great toe and is constant and debilitating. I figure it is nerve, and hopeful it's not damaged, just inflamed?? Anyone else have this that resolved after 4-5 weeks? I was told there would be pain 4-5 weeks but feel at this point it's worse! I am going to try muscle relaxer tonight to see if the surrounding muscles are just tight and pressuring the nerve.( I sometimes am having involuntary pernineal spasms after extremely painful BM's) any thoughts?
I am so thankful for this support. My surgeon is on vacation since my surgery and I feel I was not well informed on what my experience would be.

Re: 3 weeks post op A+P repair/nerve pain?

Hi there,

The spasms are normal. You're body has just gone through major surgery and different things can happen to different women. I had perineal pain/ache...so not pleasant! That started about 3 weeks and took about 2 weeks to go away. No one ever told me that this could happen. I kinda freaked out a little as my body was doing all sorts of weird things.

The burning pain you are feeling does sound like nerve issues. I experienced this with one of my incisions. It takes months for this to heal. I didn't experience it in the rectal area nor did it feel like it was getting worse. It could be inflamed. It was just a very sloooooow gradual healing. I would definitely call your surgeon when he gets back from vacation. If you don't want to wait, does he/she have a nurse or another doc you can ask?

At 3 weeks I had a lot going on, so I'm sure this will all resolve on it's own. It sounds like time will take care of it as you body heals. You are in my prayers!

Hugs,
Suzy

Oh Suzy,
Thank you so much for replying. I'm in tears most of the time right now. The muscle relaxers did not work- just made me sleepy. I still did not sleep much last night d/ t extreme burning. I have difficulty walking as well. I will call my family Dr today to make sure it's not an abcess or something. Surgeon is back next week. Thank you.

You're welcome! I know what your going through. Pain & the unknown can bring us to tears, but this will get better! I know that it feels like it's not, but it will. Definitely call your doc.

I'm praying for a fast recovery for you!

Please do call your doctor if this is new pain. You might also ask about a referral to Pelvic Floor PT.

Re: 3 weeks post op A+P repair/nerve pain?

Hi, Sorry you are having so much pain. I am 3 weeks today with Davinci, hysterectomy, stage 3 rectocele & cystocele, I had both overies taken also.

I have had the sme pains, but mine are on the right side. The docs told me its a damaged nerve, my skin even hurts to touch on that side. I've had lots of surgeries, including abdominal, ectopic, gallbladder, etc. but this is by far the toughest I've ever had.

I just wasn't prepared for the pain or recouperation. So, I'm there with you if you need to talk.

It seems like this is a rough week by the looks of the posts, hopefully by next week well be doing better!

Hang in there, hope today is better for you, use the heating pad too.

Re: 3 weeks post op A+P repair/nerve pain?

Hello. Sorry that you are dealing with all of this, its a tough surgery, so many aches and pains, in so many places, for me, I didn't feel any burning sensation, could it possibly be from your shower or bath products? Obviously this is just a suggestion, I used, and still do, a soap free wash because anything else seemed to cause irritation and infammation. Usually I love my scented bathing products, still gathering dust under my bed lol, always worth a try. X C

Smile - 3 weeks post op A+P repair/nerve pain? Re: 3 weeks post op A+P repair/nerve pain?

JulyLady, thanks for the input but I had a nerve block done 3 days out but it was so extreme(pain, hot poker type & burning). That totally masked it until it wore off three days later so the docs know that's what it was. I bet the bath products really could cause a problem also...it seems like anything can be an irritant!
I can handle the pain now, even though it's not pleasant, but today it's the right side-go figure.

It just helps so much to know it is not just me.

Thanks, Debby

Re: 3 weeks post op A+P repair/nerve pain?

Hi Again. I still have some right side pain too, in right bum cheek, down leg, sometimes just to knee, other times to foot. Its only occasional now, urogyn said to expect it for up to 3 months, lol, surgery was November 2011, could understand more if it was every day, maybe sciatica, I have no idea! I hope this is soon all in the past for you, being in pain makes us so miserable and tearful, sending you some healing hands. X C

Re: 3 weeks post op A+P repair/nerve pain?

I have also had sciatica, from herniated discs. Your pain sounds exactly like mine. I've had it go away & return if I do something wrong, i.e., gardening, lifting-do it wrong and I pay. I wonder if you injured your back somehow, you should tell your neurologist if you have one, or your GP.

I've had it last over a year, but I am pain free now. I actually considered back surgery at one point because it was so bad. They can do a number of things for you to relieve it-nerve block, epidural nerve block, they are different ones. They provide long term relief. Have a wonderful day
