26 yrs old grade 1 prolapsed uterus, grade 1 cystocele, and IC!?
Had my first visit with gyn 2 weeks ago and he diagnosed a grade 1 prolapse, then referred me to the urologist because he agreed that i was having bladder issues. Saw the urologist 1 week ago and she diagnosed me with grade 1 cystocele and Inerstitial Cystitis as i have been peeing 20+ times a day. I had a bladder treatment that day and im supposed to return for 4 more treatments and then a follow up.
I have been doing kegels since i was pregnant with my son 7 years ago but she insisted that kegels would help repair the cystocele. (she even checked to make sure i was doing them properly).
Sorry so long, I'm just frustrated and feel like im too young to have all these problems with my body!
Anyone have experience with these issues. Especially the IC this is something completely new to me.

Re: 26 yrs old grade 1 prolapsed uterus, grade 1 cystocele, and IC!?
hi ishinesmiles,
Ask for a referral to a pelvic floor PT. Since you are already doing kegels it is possible that PT can show you different methods of strengthening your pelvic floor or correct the way you are doing the kegels. You can also ask your doctor if you could use vaginal estrogen cream to help strengthen your pelvic floor.
Your profile says TVH. Did you have a hysterectomy or are you scheduled for one? Have you considered using some other method of repair since you are so young?

Re: 26 yrs old grade 1 prolapsed uterus, grade 1 cystocele, and IC!?
Hi Smiles,
I myself am 32. About 2 1/2 years ago I was diagnosed with about a stage 1 prolapse. I was referred to a urologist and had the most awful experience in my life. He used a cytoscope to examine my bladder, diagnosed me with IC, and I left his office with extreme burning pain, that had me crying for the 2 hour drive home. I also had to stop and have a prescription for antibiotics filled. What a horrifying experience. However, after taking the round of very strong antibiotics, the need to pee every 10 minutes or so stopped and hasn't returned since. My bladder is not what it used to be after birthing 3 children, but those symptoms have never returned. I did stop drinkning sodas pretty much all together after that though, I had a pretty bad Dr. Pepper habit.
Now fast foward from the urologist that was awful, I found hystersisters and saw the suggestion of a urogyn. I also have been having a lot of pain during "hubby time" which I didn't use to have. The urogyn says NO prolapse, mild IC, wants to me to do pelvic floor physical therapy. He was a great Dr, but wasn't for me. I decide at this point to just move on with my life, it is what it is.
Now, this year, I go in for my annual, discuss the same problems with my gyn that I've seen for 15 years. She does a detailed exam and simply says, You need a hysterectomy. Granted, okay I have prolapse of the uterus and bladder, long painful periods and always have, and I can't enjoy "hubby time" hardly at all. I tell her urogyn wants to do PT, she says that is very conservative and isn't going to work at this point. She sends me to a new urologist who is also Chief of Staff at the hospital. He agrees with the prolapse diagnosis and plans to use a porcine PV sling to fix my bladder. He does not agree with the IC diagnosis.
So 3 out of 4 Drs agree that I definitly have pelvic floor prolapse at some degree. I think they may know what that are talking about.
My hyster is being scheduled for Oct 8th. I am honestly still not sure if I will go through with it.
I am so sorry this is incredibly long, but I think my situation will let you know, you are not alone. You may be young, but there are lots of sisters on this site that are pretty young. You are welcome to message me if you would like to chat. youngzebra, I may be overstepping the boundaries of what is appropriate, but I'd really suggest you try conservative measures before any surgery. My story is awful and long. Out of my desperation, I listened to the one surgeon I should not have, had the TAH, and am now facing a prolapse I never had before, not to mention other complications. I'm not saying that you shouldn't make your own decisions or that many women don't have success stories, but it is worthwhile to at least try easier measures first to see if you have success.

Re: 26 yrs old grade 1 prolapsed uterus, grade 1 cystocele, and IC!?
I'm much older than you gals ,but had mild prolapse also with recurring bladder infections. I could control them with d-mannose . I also had contingency which the Dr. put in a mesh sling. If I had this all to do over again I would never had any of this done. After surgery I have had one bladder inflection after the other. Had the mesh out one month ago . Since then things have much improved. I would rather wear a pad than go through that again. My prolapse was mild . Should have left that alone too. Burning in the vaginal area since the hysterectomy . I would say if not an emergency think twice. good luck

Re: 26 yrs old grade 1 prolapsed uterus, grade 1 cystocele, and IC!?
Molly50-I havent had a hysterectomy, I must have miss marked something on my profile, i will correct that asap!
youngzebra-thank you for responding, this is all very stressful with so many things diagnosed at once. it realy does help to know that others are going through such similar situations. My uro did not prescribe any antibiotics for IC, she said it was non-bacterial, i'm guessing that my urine was sterile and this means the cause of the IC was not a bladder infection.

Re: 26 yrs old grade 1 prolapsed uterus, grade 1 cystocele, and IC!?
I agree with avoiding a hyster if you are young and there are other corrective measures. If you must have a hyster due to uterine prolapse then please research your doctor carefully. Mine was fantastic. He mostly does cancer reconstructive surgeries and is a very skilled surgeon and a very empathetic man.
Youngzebra, I understand porcine sling would be preferable to other types of mesh but for me I wanted a doctor that uses only sutures. I know there are plenty of successful sling surgeries but this was my personal preference.
