Ultrasound tomorrow for mass in belly

My ultrasound is tomorrow for a mass in my lower left belly where my ovary and tube would be. My mind is whispering "fallopian tube cancer" at me at the most unexpected moments. The mass is elongated and tube like, which lends credence to my heads invasive whisperings. I'm trying not to stress about it, but it's hard not to. Wouldn't it be just right (and fairly typical for the way my life usually seems to go), that I dodge the bullet of cervical cancer just to be hit by a different sort of cancer.

I guess I'm feeling a bit anxious and pessimistic at the moment . Has anyone else had any experience with masses in that part of their belly? What has it turned out to be? I've never had an ultrasound before and am worrying about having to have a super full bladder for it. I have a useless bladder at the best of times, but trying to hold so much water for as long as they've asked me to is going to be nigh on impossible.

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow for mass in belly

First off HUGS. The mass in my right side turned out being scar tissue. The doctor didn't know a cause but was able to remove it and repair my appendix.

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow for mass in belly

I didn't have to drink that much but it seemed a lot, as I have IBB----itty bitty bladder. You might want to wear a pad. Good news is that after the outer abdominal part I got to empty my bladder before the trans vaginal part. If they don't offer, you should ask, but both times they let me. How did they happen to find this mass? It could be totally benign so try to just think of that until proven otherwise. At least the test is soon so less time to worry. Hang in there, I'm sending positive thoughts for a good scan.

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow for mass in belly

Sending hugs. I can't say I've had experience with that kind of mass but I have had some serious health concerns before that eventually turned out to be fine. Don't drink that much water! Drink until you feel full, and honestly, I would drink while driving to the appointment! I have had far too many awful ultrasound experiences with a bladder that was far too full. My doctor told me that everybody is different, and you shouldn't feel like you are going to burst, or feel like you can't help but do the "pee pee" dance.

Best of luck tomorrow!

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow for mass in belly

Thank you lovely ladies for you quick and supportive replies *hugz*

LOL @ IBB. Yep, that's the condition I suffer from, too! (Makes being a truck driver quite challenging at times)

I found the mass myself. I felt it after I was told I had HSIL. Being the curious wee thing that I am, I had a good feel of my belly to see if there were any signs of anything down there. When I first felt it, I thought it might be gut full of poo (That's a whole nother story ... I'm seeing a gastroenterologist next week due to lots of trouble with BMs. And have a quick guess what my head is telling me that is!), but after successful BMs it was still there, besides which, it feels too narrow to be anything like that.

When I went to the gp about spotting after my LLETZ/LEEP, I asked her to check it out. She said her thoughts would have been the same as my initial ones if it hadn't been there so long, meaning a couple of months. For all I know, it could have been there for years. I don't make a habit of examining my belly so thoroughly. She said it could be that because I am skinny, she can feel stuff she couldn't normally feel on people.

I'm really glad she is sending me to the ultrasound and not just brushing it off, but still nervous as hell about the results. I can tell myself all I want to not worry until I really know there is something to worry about, but it doesn't do much good. Hopefully it will just turn out to be unexplained scar tissue or something equally benign.

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow for mass in belly

LOL again @ pee pee dance. You guys are precious *mwah* I've got a 45 minute drive down there, so I'm thinking I'll stop at the half way mark for a pee, then drink some water so that by the time I get there, my bladder will be full but not on the verge of bursting.

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow for mass in belly

Hi

I am going through a similar experience I also have a pelvic Mass, tubular shape next to my ovary but not joined to it. I had my SAH a year a go and have been in pain in the right ovary area and cervix ever since. I went back to the Gyni many times as My cervix tore at 2 weeks post op which took a long time to heal. I had several scans and nothing was showing up on the right side only 3 cysts on the ovary on the left. I kept just getting told that I was a slow healer. Much of my pain I knew was adhesions as I have had serious problems with them in the past.

6 weeks ago I had another scan after a lump was felt in the pelvic exam, this time a mass next to the ovary showed up. This caused lots of confusion as the Fallopian tube was removed during hysterectomy. But the Dr thought maybe a remnant of Fallopian tube was left behind, then got attacked by the scar tissue causing the tube to fill with fluid and dilate. The doctors other theories are maybe that its a peritoneal inclusion cyst, Hydrosalpinx or a tumor of some sort. The Dr suggested waiting for 6 weeks to see if there was any change, so I did and went back last week for another scan and the only change was the mass had grown. The outcome is now surgery to remove the mass, the cysts on the on the other ovary, remove adhesions which she suspects are causing bowel and bladder problems. An oncologist has been called in to assist as he assisted in my hysterectomy as I have a high risk medical history. This will be my tenth surgery My uriologist is also going to join the party and cystoscope my bladder, put stents in ureters. I have a double urinary system, so this should keep him busy

This will be my tenth surgery, I am wondering when it will all stop.

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow for mass in belly

OMG!!! You poor thing To have to go through to so much is more than anyone should have to bear. I am so sorry this is happening to you. *hugest, warmest hugz* I'm going slightly nuts and this has only been going on for a few months for me. To be having such problems over such a long time must be so terribly hard for you.

It's strange that you say you have a tubular shaped mass. The mass I can feel in my belly, which is the reason I had the ultrasound, seems to be long and thin, though I can't tell how deep it goes. It is at least 6-7cm long. The fibroid, according to the ultrasound report is only 3.5x2.5x3.5cm, so I'm convinced there's more going on in there. The fibroid they found may or may not be pedunculated (growing on the outside of my uterus of a little stem) on the left side. My GP was surprised that it turned out to be a fibroid, because it's in an unusual place. Plus something is putting increasing pressure on my bowel, and it seems that unless I take enough stool softeners to have liquid movements, I have no movements at all. I'm thinking maybe there's another fibroid growing on the back of my uterus which didn't show on the ultrasound.

I emailed my GYN the other day to see if he could organise a scan for me to get a better look at what's happening in there, and just this morning have made an appointment for Tuesday to discuss it with him.

I wish you the very best of luck with this surgery. It sounds like you have a great team working with you, so hopefully they can get everything all sorted properly and your 10th surgery will be your last!

*more big gentle hugz*

Re: Ultrasound tomorrow for mass in belly

Hi Kay

It's good you are having another scan and getting to talk things through with the Gyni, maybe you could ask him if a Hydrosalpinx is possible (Fallopian tube filled with fluid) or a peritoneal cyst caused by adhesions from previous surgery? Could the thing on a stalk be a polyp? Have a read up on some of these issues as it might help you make a list of questions to ask the Gyni Dr. Doesn't hurt to throw things into a discussion right?
Keep us posted with how you get on and if you learn anything more. I will do the same.
